Ammo test 455 Varmint 22lr heavy barrel
« on: July 25, 2015, 12:25:02 PM »
Purchased a 455 22lr heavy barrel to go along with my 455 17hmr heavy barrel rifle. Took the rifle to the range recently to see how it my new 22lr barrel would shoot with different ammo brands. The ammo brands are SK Std plus, Gemtech, Wolf, NormaTac, Geco and CCI Std Vel. I did not have enough of the SK Std Plus to shoot a five shot group in the sighter. Targets shot with a Bald Eagle front rest and shooter's ridge rear bag; are listed worst ATC to best ATC using OnTarget to measure shot groups. I am pleased with the results, need to work on the vertical stringing. Just wanted share a good day at the range testing ammo.

Gemtech   .566 ATC
Wolf          .347 ATC
CCI SV      .344 ATC
Geco         .297 ATC
NormaTac .276 ATC
Average    .366 ATC
SK Std Plus:

GemTech:

Wolf Ammo:

CCI Std Vel:

Geco:

NormaTac:

viking and rf7, thanks for the comments. I had some kinda fun shooting the ammo test and I would agree that my 455 22lr likes NormaTac the best, but will also give good shooting groups with the Geco and CCI SV ammo. I think I will try the same test with my 453 Amer 22 which might prove interesting. All in all just having some fun putting rounds through both rifles.
