Stainless Guide Rods and the P-01 SDP
« on: August 20, 2015, 02:13:24 PM »
Hi everyone,

I am interested in the SDP, but puzzled by one issue.  (Please note; I have searched through the forum, and am not finding a clear answer on this - but if this topic has been well covered before and I just searched poorly - well then apologies in advance and a link would be appreciated.)

There are a wealth of posts discussing possible issues with use of stainless steel guide rods in alloy framed 75 Compact variants, including the P-01.  A bit over a year ago I contacted CZ USA to enquire, and was told that use of a stainless guide rod would cancel my warrantee.  Mind you, I believe their business policy may be that any/all aftermarket parts cancel a warrantee, so in retrospect I am not sure that feedback was any kind of corporate stance on use of steel rods...

In any event, I now see that the CZ Custom Shop "CZ COMPACT P01 SDP" model that is listed on both the CZC page and the CZ USA product page uses a stainless steel guide rod.

Question:  Is the P-01 SDP built using either some newly designed type of stainless guide rod, and/or has the frame been updated for the P-01 SDP?   If not, were previous discussions regarding possible frame damage from a steel guide rod somehow incorrect or misleading?

Thanks for any insight!

Cheers.

I have 2 SDPs that I recently purchased and had the same question.  I read all the threads that you probably did.  I would "hope" that CZ Custom knows what they are doing and have designed a stainless steel guide rod that is OK for the gun but still, makes you wonder what is different with the SDP stainless steel rod that makes it OK.

Will be interesting to see if someone responds to your question.   Of course you could always contact CZ Custom and ask them (I could have done that too I guess).

By the way..........I LOVE MY SDPs!!!!  Both have 8.5lb double action trigger pull and the single action is 3 1/4 on one and 3 1/2 on the other (you'll find different weights and I always asked for a picture of the target where it shows the trigger pull test so that I could get the best DA and SA I could find).

They look identical so here's a picture of just one of them.  Both are 2015 guns with the same proof marks and the NSN.  I had another one I sold that did NOT have the NSN and was from a different proof house.  I liked it too and sort of wish I hadn't sold it.  It was nice and clean looking without the NSN on it.  Odd thing is that it did NOT have the newer spring (which is when they produced some P01s that didn't have the NSN).

Thanks for the reply. Your SDP is a lovely piece; and very nice pictures.

My current P-01 is one of the updated spring with  no NSN models; for a stock pistol it is excellent.  Hopefully Stuart  or one of his colleagues may offer some insight on our shared question.

Regards.
