« on: September 23, 2015, 03:31:39 PM »
Was the 452 every available with a factory threaded heavy barrel? Not seeing one but doesn't mean they didn't do it.

If you are looking for a 452 with a heavy barrel,  factory threaded I think the #02065 is the wrong firearm. That number is for the 16.5 in threaded  452 American that comes with a small barrel. The only heavy barrel was on a Varmint, but it wasn't threaded.

Well I got something. Hope it's a shooter.

Think We are both right. It's not a heavy barrel. Looked bigger in pictures due to the short barrel length compared to my other models.

Nice American.  Check the threads before you buy an adapter.  Some are threaded 1/2-20 and some 1/2-28.

I thought all the 452's were 1/2x20. and the 455's became 1/2x28 fairly recently.

I could be wrong.

Nice American. I have one just like it, and mine is a real shooter. I don't know about the threads, I didn't suppress it

Finally got a chance to clean it up, get a scope on it and spent a little time at the range. Unfortunately my 10/22 build was having problems and I just barely got it sighted in. It's a shooter. It will have real potential once I work on the stock trigger and run something other than bulk pac ammo. CZs never disappoint me.

You had to ask......

Well it was like this. I started out testing a new 10/22 build and it was having some real issues with action timing and trigger reset ( or lack of) so my normally carefully separated ammo types got a little mixed together while I tried all the ammo in my bag. By the time I gave up and moved on to the CZ I was just cleaning off the loose ammo on the bench so it was a mix of CCI AR Tactical, federal bulk pac, Winchester and Federal Automatch. At 25 yards the velocity variance was no big thing, but it bodes well for decent ammo.

Non-CZ related but once I got home I took the new Kidd charging handle, guide rod and spring out, replaced it with OEM and everything sorted itself out when I took it back out. Now I have to play spring bingo and find one that works with the slick lookin charging handle.

AZ_CZ,

I am going to ruin my reputation and loose what little credibility I have had on this forum by offering the following...

Lead will build up in the barrel.  You may have to actually clean it.  I know lots of folks with very smooth and lapped factory barrels don't have to clean them, but a standard production barrel with chatter marks might actually benefit from lead removal periodically.

I check for lead buildup with a borescope.  When the borescope lens tube won't go more than half way down the barrel without getting jammed in the lead, I clean it.  Or you can try dropping a .177 pellet down the barrel.  If it won't fall out the other end, you should probably clean it, or at least get the pellet out.

Seriously, I need to clean my 22LR Savage much more often than I have been.  I waited too long last time.  And I am going to use some JB paste to smooth it out some too.  And I'm going to clean the leade area very, very, carefully.

In my mind, a 22 rifle is more cantankerous than any other firearm, due to lead and ammo variations, in addition to variations in the bore finishes and dimensions between manufactureres.

I'm glad you have a shooter.  I am taking my "clean" Savage out this afternoon.

Joe
