Bought a 52 and a 70. What do I need to know?
« on: October 03, 2015, 09:27:52 PM »
I finally was able to get my hands on a 52 and a 70 in the past 24 hours. Both came with only one magazine. So I suppose the first question is where do I get magazines for both of these pistols? Secondly, I know there are firing pin issues with some of the 52's. I see there is a company that makes redesigned firing pins that supposedly don't break. Is it worth it to put one in? What else do I need to know about the 52 and 70?
Czech it out!

Well first off you need to know that both the 52 and 70 (I have a 50) are AWESOME!!!! My 52 came with two magazines while the 50 came with one. I have yet to find any magazines for the 52 but they are out there for the 50/70, even on eBay. Have yet to get any though. As for the firing pin issues, I haven't looked into those yet.

Glad to know they are fun to shoot. I've wanted a 52 for a long time. The 70 just sort of followed along.

I obtained my CZ52 and CZ70 spare mags on Ebay.  I have heard of issues with the rollers and firing pin for the CZ52 but I have never experienced any problems myself and mine has the original of both. During field stripping taking the CZ52 barrel out for the first time was an experience. Field stripping the CZ70 is a breeze.

Now for firing the CZ52 is a blast (literally).  The 7.62 Tokarev is a very hot round.  The CZ70, like any .32 ACP (7.65mm Browning) weapon, is pretty tame.

I watched some videos on YouTube of guys shooting the 52. That bullet seems to come out of there was some serious fury. I can't wait to get out and take some shots at the range with it. The 70 is a beat up gun. It appears to have never been fired, but the bluing is coming off, it's got rough spots, and the grips are all scratched. There was a spot where CAI messed up their stamp and ground it off and redid it that was just bare metal. I put some gloss black enamel over it just to make it not so conspicuous. It's going to probably end up a car gun or carry gun for bad weather. I don't care much if it gets even uglier. It just has to be reliable.

Yes, I forgot to mention that the Tokarev round is a BEAST (at least to this chick). Hehehe...

Did a quick search and came up with a few places with cz52 mags all around $20 http://www.jgsales.com/cz-52-7.62x25-or-9mm-8rd-magazine,-black,-new.-p-69817.html,  or http://www.midwayusa.com/product/778726/military-surplus-magazine-cz-52-762x25mm-8-round-steel-blue,  or http://whatacountry.com/cz-52-7-62x25-8-round-magazine---cz-mfg.aspx and one place for the cz70 mags, http://www.gunclips.net/listingDetails.php?CZ-70-Gun-Magazine-573  - Bodene

Just wanted to note that those "CZ Factory" Magazines aren't real CZ-UB manufacture. There is a lot more discussion about them in the CZ82/CZ83 forum. They may come from a factory in the Czech Republic, but they aren't the "real deal".

I have one of these magazines for the CZ52. It does fit my pistol (without modification like some of the online review mentioned), but it does not lock the slide on an empty magazine. I'm tempted to buy a pack of the Wolff +10% springs, since that may solve the problem.

I had noticed that most are either "MFG CZ" or Triple K made and not original CZ equipment. As long as it feeds, I'm happy. These aren't going to be high round count guns. That's what the 75s and 85s are for!

Not always exactly the same but usually interchangeable.

On the 52, as long as you don't dry fire it then you should be good on the firing pin. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to have one stashed away somewhere either. Harrington Products sell both the pins and rollers, if you haven't already found them there.

Well, sad news on several accounts here-

1. I sold both the 52 and 70. The 52 would not chamber a round and I didn't want to risk it needing a barrel and other repairs. Turns out there was a casing lodged in the chamber and had to be machined out. The 70 shot about 6-12" left at 7 yards, so there was some sort of crown or rifiling issue with it.

2. I bought a nice condition 70 at a gun show today. Well, at least it LOOKED nice. They had it wired shut to be compliant with the rules of the gun show. I get it home and the barrel is loose and the feed ramp is all screwed up because of it. Hopefully it did not damage the feed ramp section on the frame! It looks like the barrel was not machined properly and could move slightly back and forth and it finally worked loose and destroyed itself. I ordered a new barrel and pin already and it will go to the gunsmith for proper fitting.
