Front sight device locking pin
« on: October 05, 2015, 01:22:31 PM »
Does anyone have a reference to how that front sight comes apart?  I have looked and find nada.  My pin is jammed in and painted and I suspect rusted.

Thanks,

John

Very similar to AK.  Remove the front sight post (unscrew up) and then you can press out the cylinder (prob not right descriptor but what I'm using) to the right or left (one way is probably correct, but it shouldn't matter in this application)...

One of the things I want to test at some point is to see if I can use an AK cylinder in the VZ58 to run AK tritium sights -- the VZ and AK posts are not threaded the same, but haven't checked fsb cylinder diameters...

RSR,

My Man.  Thanks for the reply.  I wasn't clear as to my problem:  There is a spring loaded locking pin that comes out the front surface of the front sight.  It prevents muzzle devices from unscrewing themselves.  My D Tech gun had one that worked when I got the gun.  I screwed a muz extension device on it and that device was flat on the mating surface and just pressed in the spring loaded pin where it rusted in place.  Now that part has been painted and while I have been able to get it to move a little and I have soaked it in Rust Buster I really want to get that plunger/pin out and properly clean it and the hole it slides in.

I was at a loss as to how that pin might be removed.  I have since noticed that the Front Sight retaining pin, front pin, slightly intersect the hole for that front device pin/plunger.  My plans are to work the pin out far enough to get a grip with needle nose and then drive out the base pin and see if I can work it out.  That pin for the base seems the only way to get it apart.  The pin you mention is situated way to far back to interact with that front pin....it seems.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer.

John

The front sight detent is different from the front sight.

Yes, you remove the front (towards muzzle) front sight block retaining pin, driving out from left to right.  There will be a pin and spring in that channel.  If having an issue, consider replacing the spring and polishing the channel and detent.  Wouldn't hurt to add bluing to polished surfaces and oil generously after as well.  Grease oftens hardens if left in locations where rarely cleaned...

You may want to have a dental/gun pick on hand to get the spring out.

RSR,

Thanks.  You got here to late for the grease advice.  I did polish up the inside and the pin itself.  Actually the inside was corroded with that white stuff and I used a .155" bit to clear the hole.  I got the grease out cause it captured the pin and kept it depressed.  Aha, said I.  Later read you post.

With one eye I sometimes miss a lot and this was one of those times.  Took a while for me to see the intersection of the holes for the pin and plunger.

Thanks,

John

Can't be sure.  Steel, stored in sealed container that doesn't breath,  generates this white stuff that looks similar.  But it is gone now.  Looks like calcium build-up.

I need that pin and spring for two rifles.  Neither of my kits came with the pins and spring.

Anybody have a couple for sale or know where they can be purchased?

Thanks,

John

RSR,

We might have a disconnect.  The Chec Point catalog does not list the attaching parts to ther front sight.  The little pins, yes, but not the plunger and spring.  Or am I missing something?

I'll check all the others.  All the 58 sites I have visited either don't sell the front sight or don't sell the parts.  Actually I want a front sight, complete, I can attach a bayonet to.

Thanks for your post.

I received an email alert that there was a response in this thread from "paskeCZ".  I sure am interested considering I have combed thru all the sites listed for this forum and gotten zilch.  So, paskeCZ, COME BACK, please.

Numrich has them:

Do note that the numrich stuff has been described as somewhat rough, so might want to order a couple more than you need and then pick the best once you clean them up.

You can get free shipping on that item if you call their toll-free line during business hours, follow the prompts for the daily shipping code, then enter that code when you order online.  Great perk of Numrich, especially when you order small, inexpensive items.

RSR,

I went blind looking and I know I was on a Numrich site and didn't find either the plunger or spring.  AND the prices are right.  Thank you much.

TJ,

Thanks for the heads up.  I will order tomorrow.

John

The Numrich parts were not new and that was expected.  But, they were in excellent condition and relatively clean.  The price was right.

Thanks, RSR
