CSA VZ58 barrel paint blistering and peeling
« on: October 19, 2015, 03:02:55 PM »
I recently purchased a CSA Military Sporter in 7.62.  I've put approximately 500 rounds through it so far and just recently noticed that the barrel is blistering and chipping under the lower handguard.  In contacting Czechpoint (whom I purchased the rifle through) about this, they advised me that this is normal when the barrel gets very hot from shooting consecutive rounds 2 to 3 (30 round mags).  Being new to the VZ58 rifle, this doesn't seem right to me; I own other AK47's and have shot more consecutive rounds/mags and never had the coating bubble and peel.  Has anyone else experienced this same problem?

I don't own any CSA weapons.

Is it parked under the paint on the barrel?  Just curious (don't believe they are but curious) -- that's what the original AK finish was I believe...  And parkerizing should allow the finish to adhere better than raw steel...

Century tried a few different finishes on the VZ2008 -- black oxide, bluing, park, etc, from what I understand.  B/c of all the different alloys that go into this gun however, they all looked like crap.  Except for the black teflon they ended up using...

*Duracoat also makes a VZ2000 paint color that closely matches the Czech OE gray-blue (there are/were variations in this color, but it should be fairly close).  For under the HG it should suffice if you want to touch up or repaint.  The easiest route is the durabake/shake and bake: http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/metal-prep-coloring/paint-finishes/bake-on-aerosol-paints/shake-n-bake-kit-vz2000-sku100009199-45119-102393.aspx

The barrel isn't parkerized - it is semi-gloss/matte black finish cured at 300 degrees over phosphate...You would think they would use a finish to withstand high temperatures

Phosphate is park.  So at least it has that.

Brain slip about the new CSA guns being black vs the earlier and original gray...
