Z 75 compact, stainless steel, or hard chrome/satin nickel??
« on: October 24, 2015, 05:54:35 PM »
I went to the gun show just north of Richmond, VA today.

I saw (noticed really - I'm paying more attention to CZ handguns these days) some I'd not seen before.

A P06, an SP01 and CZ 75 Compact.  I handled all of them and all of them felt good in my hand, but the one that sticks with me is the CZ 75 Compact.  It was either stainless steel, or had a matte chrome or nickel finish.  It also had 10 round magazines with it.

I looked over the CZ USA web site and didn't notice anything but blued CZ 75 Compacts.

Did they used to make them in stainless, or hard chrome finishes?  The 10 round magazines suggest it was intended for a ban state, or maybe made back during the ban several years back.

It did not read CZ 75B on the slide, just CZ 75.  If it had the firing pin block, would it not say CZ 75 B on the slide?

I'm curious, really.  I'm already looking at CZ 75 Compact magazines on the CZ USA website to see what a few spares would cost.

Thanks for any info.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I think last year or 2 years ago they offered the compact with a stainless slide. I could be wrong but I'll have to dig out my old catalogs. The 10 round mag is only available thru CZ but if you live in a free state you can buy the excellent Mec-Gar 13 round mags at Midway

Let me know if you find any of those 10-round 9mm magazines for sale somewhere...

And maybe post some pics if you end up buying it!

I asked this question over at arfcom and got a reply that CZ doesn't make stainless steel C75 Compacts, but did, for a couple of years, sell satin nickel coated models/versions of it.

Still haven't made it back up there yet.  Still waiting on the wife to get motivated and all fixed up and ready to go.

Don't think it was stainless compact, it was satin nickel.

That's it.  Here is the one I got.  Used.  $530.  The way it looks and shoots, it was worth it.

Came with two 10 round magazines.  I'll be fixing that shortly.

Picked it up, took it to the range (put the ammo/targets/etc. in the car before I left - I was on a mission).

Unlike my P07 and P09 guns, it seems to like the 147 grain hollow points I had loaded up for my M&P 9MM.  I thought I had more variety but I grabbed the wrong box (or two, since the .40 S&W lead rounds I thought were 147 grain lead 9MM just wouldn't work, for some reason).  I had 115 grain FMJ from Federal, 100 grain SMP (sintered powder metal) bullet reloads and 147 grain Rainier hollow point reloads.

Best groups were my reloads, the 100 grain and 147 grain.  Best of the bunch was the 147 grain hollow point reloads.  I did something different this time, just for one 10 shot group.  Instead of aiming through the bottom of my bifocals so I could make the front sight nice and sharp (with the target an ugly blur) I aimed through top of the bifocals which made the target nice and sharp (and made the front sight an ugly blur).  That was my best 10 round group.

Dropped that first shot, but the rest were in the black.  Off hand at 11.75 yds (the sign on the table said).  Edited to remove the comments about the picture being sideways.  It was when first posted, but seems to have "righted itself sometime over the past few days.

I'm very happy with it.  Just need to get my wife to the range to shoot it and see what she thinks.  The gun is pretty, but she like "accurate guns".

Gratz, nice looking compact.

Thank you for the pics.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

I took it just a bit farther than field stripping for that first cleaning.

Had some trouble with the grip screws.  They'd make about 2 turns and lock up.  I sure didn't want to strip them out, so I stopped and put a drop or two of oil on the inside of the grip where the screws were at.  I turned them back in, then back out, then in/out, three or four times and they worked loose and came out.  Just dirt/crud in the threads I guess and the oil lubed it up enough to help the threads clean the screws as I worked them in/out.

I also removed the magazine brake (if that's what it's called).  I want the mags to drop free when I hit the mag release, just like every other pistol I own.   That leaves the hammer spring a little more exposed back there, but about the like the P07 and P09, so I didn't figure it would hurt anything.

Just ordered some magazines from Midway USA, about $23 each for the 14 round mags.

I guess the next upgrade will be night sights.  I've seen some cool looking grips, but that's looking cool and function comes first.

Oh, my wife says it's pretty.  And she really liked that target so I figure she'll leave my P09 alone now.

There was a bag of snap caps in the box with the cleaning stuff.  I've never seen anything like them before.  Anyone else seen this type?

It looks like you just replace the green "primer" when the one in the black cartridge case wears out.

Also, the recoil spring does not look like the ones sold on the CZ USA website.  It's a wound spring, sort of like the AK47 hammer/trigger springs.  I've never seen one in a pistol before.  Is this how the older springs were in the CZ 75's?  Or is it an aftermarket spring of some kind?

Thanks again for info on the new gun in our house.

One more (for now) question.  I find the front of the pistol frame, between the grips, to be very slick.  Has anyone added anything at that point to make the front of the frame a little "grippier?"

I've never used skateboard tape, but I've read that lots of other folks use it on grips/frames to add friction.

Just curious.

Skate board tape or hogue wrap around grips

"Found" a small jug of the 147 grain hollow point reloads for my old M&P 9MM tonight.

Same load I shot in the CZ 75 Compact the other day.

The tag in the jug reads

11/11/13  Winchester Small Pistol
5.3 grains  AA#5
1.120" OAL
150 rounds

Just put half of them in the 5 new magazines I bought.  Three 14 round and two 19 round magazines.

Did the bullets plunk?  A lot of JHP profiles need to be loaded short
