I took it just a bit farther than field stripping for that first cleaning.
Had some trouble with the grip screws. They'd make about 2 turns and lock up. I sure didn't want to strip them out, so I stopped and put a drop or two of oil on the inside of the grip where the screws were at. I turned them back in, then back out, then in/out, three or four times and they worked loose and came out. Just dirt/crud in the threads I guess and the oil lubed it up enough to help the threads clean the screws as I worked them in/out.
I also removed the magazine brake (if that's what it's called). I want the mags to drop free when I hit the mag release, just like every other pistol I own. That leaves the hammer spring a little more exposed back there, but about the like the P07 and P09, so I didn't figure it would hurt anything.
Just ordered some magazines from Midway USA, about $23 each for the 14 round mags.
I guess the next upgrade will be night sights. I've seen some cool looking grips, but that's looking cool and function comes first.
Oh, my wife says it's pretty. And she really liked that target so I figure she'll leave my P09 alone now.
There was a bag of snap caps in the box with the cleaning stuff. I've never seen anything like them before. Anyone else seen this type?
It looks like you just replace the green "primer" when the one in the black cartridge case wears out.
Also, the recoil spring does not look like the ones sold on the CZ USA website. It's a wound spring, sort of like the AK47 hammer/trigger springs. I've never seen one in a pistol before. Is this how the older springs were in the CZ 75's? Or is it an aftermarket spring of some kind?
Thanks again for info on the new gun in our house.
