Possible Sphinx magazine compatibility -which ones?
« on: November 16, 2015, 05:45:42 PM »
I search this forum for possibility of using a different magazine for my compact 9 mm Sphinx. The threads I found didn't address which of CZ magazine actually fits a compact Sphinx. The question were left unanswered.  One thread talks about 14 rd is too short and 16rd is too long. So, which magazines fit a compact Sphinx?
I also found another thread that said Canik magazine can be used in a Sphinx.
Any help is appreciated .

One of these days I am going to give these a try in my Sphinx.

Suggest you take a look at post #4

I bought several spare Sphinx magazines that were actually cheaper than some of my factory CZ magazines.  Can't remember the website off the top of my head.  :-X

I read the canik compact mags fit as good as the Sphinx mags. A lot cheaper.

Here is what I have that fit in my SDP Compact:

16rd Mec-Gar CZ75B mags with the compact rubber baseplate and the standard steel baseplate. It sticks out about 1/2 inch

17rd Mec-Gar CZ75B mags with the plastic baseplate. These are identical to the Sphinx SDP Standard 17rders, except for the color of the follower, red for the Sphinx mags blue for the Mec-Gar. These are about $10-15 cheaper than the Sphinx mags.

15rd Canik55 Compact (Stingray, Shark) made by MecGar. The mag body is the same as the Sphinx's with a different finish. The follower is also a different color. The baseplates will need to be trimmed about 1/8", or they will not seat in the Sphinx SDP Compact.

I am going to test the 17rd Mec-Gar mags with the SP01 Baseplate to see if it will seat properly in the Sphinx, but I doubt it, since the 17rd mags look to be the same length as the 16rd mags.

Hope that helps.

For those with Sphinx SDP compacts looking for mags. 17rd MecGar CZ75 Mags are the same as the Sphinx SDP full sized mags but $10-15 cheaper. Coupled with an SP01 baseplate, and BAM! You have a flush fit 17rder. Well not completely, but better than nothing.

The 17 round mag bodies are a little longer than the 16 round mag bodies. 17 round +SP-01 base pads work perfect on the SDP Conpact. The 16 round + SP-01 base pad works perfect in the Compact CZ's.
