Brand new 97BD FTFire.

Been having an issue with my new 97BD. When I first got it, I was getting randomly FTFire. Like 2-4 out of 50 rounds. I suspected that maybe were my reloads. A second trigger pull would fix the issue. Today, took it out with some WWB and it was worst. On a average, 2 rounds out of every magazine will have this issue. After 50 rounds, got tired and put it away. Took it home and did the pencil/firing pin test to find it very inconsistent. Most of the time the pencil (no eraser) will just bounce, then some other times, it will shoot out of the barrel but then there were others that it wouldn't move.  At the moment this is one of my HD guns but I have to side line it. I have put about 200 rounds through it so far and this it the the one issue I have with this gun. Recommendations?

Is it a new firearm? If so, did you fully clean it to remove the shipping grease?

Or is it used but new to you? 

I'd start with the simple stuff like cleaning the firing pin channel.  I personally like to blast it with brake cleaner to blow out any crud.  I then lube it with silicone spray that leaves a slick film behind.

If that doesn't fix it, you may have a timing issue with the firing pin block lever.  ou alsl may just have some machine flaw in the firing pin channel. The fact it is intermittent point me to a timing issue.

The gun is brand new but I did clean the firing pin channel with brake cleaner. I was thinking about timing also. after I wrote the post I started looking at when does the cam for the FPB comes up. It seems that it comes up all the way after the hammer is released.

I think I found the problem. Took the pin out and polished the pin and was about to polish the channel when I felt something grabbing the sandpaper. Did a bit more sanding and this came out. It is a small piece of metal.

So took it out today. WWB was giving me issues but not as much. This was the reminder of the box I used before. I was having them about one every other magazine. it was putting better dents on the ammo though. I was surprised that they didn't fire. That was a box of 50. Tried 20 of my reloads and those ran 100%. I think I will be sending it to CZ.

Try a different box of ammo first.  How old is the ammo that you were using?

I'd just give CZ USA a call since the gun is new and let them handle it for you. That's what the warranty is for and they are excellent to deal with.

Did this already. They pretty much replied right away with shipping information. My concern is that thy might say something about removing the firing pin. The roll pin does have some marks.

Small dab of cold blue to hide marks?

I don't think they will say a thing about the firing pin retainer pin.  Just tell them you had to remove it to get one tiny spec of crud out of the firing pin channel, thinking you would save everyone some time and trouble.  As long as you didn't bend or nick the firing pin yourself, not a problem.

Got a box federal this time. going to try it tomorrow. I think I got bad ammo. Just find it weird that my reloads ran 100% last time and the WWB with nice dent didn't go pew. I use CCI primers which are pretty hard primers.

So all of the 50 rounds went pew when they were supposed to. All primers look good too. Will reload a new batch and go give it another try to be 100%. But bleep it is a sweet pistol to shoot when you are not concentrating on FTFire.
