cz bolt action
« on: January 29, 2016, 10:11:54 AM »
Brand new to the forum as of today. I have never heard of cz til about a month ago when I started looking for a .17hmr, from what I have read it has me very interested in trying one.
I have a question about them, I have a tikka .204 which I absolutely love to destroy gophers with, one of my favorite things about it is the bolt action, it is the smoothest bolt I have ever shot and I wanted to know how the cz would compare.  Is it a smooth action or are there any complaints from anyone that it is jerky and stiff.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you.

The bolts and safeties can be a bit stiff when new. My experience is they smooth up nicely for a production sporter rifle in their price niche. I've never handled a Tikka, but they're in a different price range, more comparable to the 550 line of rifles.

You're welcome. ;D

My oldest CZ is a 452 varmint, a lot smoother than my newer ones, but nowhere near butter slick like my wife's Tikka .223. But I wouldn't trade my 452, nor my 527 in .223, for her Tikka.

My 455's have quite a few rounds though them, and they cycle very smoothly.  I would say that after 1,000 rounds or so through them, they were both free of any dragging or burrs.

The safety is stiff, but I don't use the safety too much.  The CZ safety is a bit contrary to my upbringing, so I usually just carry them unchambered, and chamber when I'm about to go work.  That's a long explanation as to why my safeties haven't really smoothed in a comparable way to my bolts.

I have a almost NIB 452 .17HM2 I just got, and it is much tighter, and not as smooth as my 455's - it has an extra lug, and more bearing surface.  I'm sure it will smooth out once I put the 2,500 rds through it I intend to this spring.

Some will die in hot pursuit while sifting through my ashes.
Some will fall in love with life, and drink it from a fountain, that's pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain.

A 455 cz would be a fun shooter as you can do barrel changes to many combos  22lr  22 mag and 17hmr all one platform.

I shoot 17hmr and 22 lr  no magnums as ammo is limited as to few choices.

PS hello fellow Canuck

Thanks to you all for your input.
Knightschneider and anyone else who can supply info, your 452 .17hmr, is it a synthetic stock?  I am very partial to synthetic as I don't feel guilty putting a scratch in plastic but hate marking up nice wood stocks.  So far I have had a hard time trying to find any cz .17's in a synthetic.  The website shows a 455 synthetic in a .22lr but no synthetic version.  Now my understanding, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that with the 455 series you can interchange barrels and put a .17 on this.  That being said it seems like an expensive way of getting the gun I want.  There is a combo version offered where it comes with both .22lr and .17 but again thats a wood stock.
A fella at a gunshop said that cz has made synthetic .17's but was unable to give me any more info than that so I don't know what to look for, and I don't even know that his word is gold.

Again, any info you can pony up would be great.

boonedog013, I have two CZ 452's, one CZ 453, one CZ 455 combo 22lr/17hmr and one CZ 527 223. Initially the rimfire bolts were sticky but have become easier to close and open after numerous rounds of ammo have been fired down the barrel. The bolt on the 223 rifle has been very easy to open and close from day one. Once you get past the initial stickiness, the CZ rifles are fun to shoot.

I don't think CZ ever offered a 452 with a synthetic stock.

I don't think CZ ever offered a 452 with a synthetic stock.

They offered 2 in 22.  The Style and Silhouette.  One was blued and the other was a nickle finish, neither had sights.  Whittakers also had a small run of threaded HMR synthetics a year or two ago.

CZ-USA sells synthetic stocks as a replacement option if you find a wood rifle you like and want to replace the stock.
