Am I right in thinking....
« on: March 05, 2016, 12:00:26 PM »
Am I right in thinking if I buy a 805 Pistol or Carbine this year eventually I can have it converted to 7.62x39 when the parts are available?

Also how difficult is it to convert a 805 .223 Pistol to a .223 Carbine with 16"+ barrel?

There's a 805 pistol available locally and it is very tempting. I'm not trying to go SBR or anything, I just want a semi-auto rifle to go to the range.

And regarding the law if I have a receiver with buttstock I can still have the pistol barrel in possession as long as I don't mount it?

Number one - no idea. Would be nice.
Number 2, same answer, no idea how hard it wold be to dismount the barrel and replace it, serious gunsmith job I think.
Number 3, no-no...BATFE has this thing called "constructive possession", where if you have the parts to assemble an NFA firearm, it's the same thing as having the assembled firearm. They MIGHT treat it like the TC Encore rifle, (case they lost in SCOTUS years ago), but they might not, and most BATFE agents I've known have zero sense of humor. Don't poke the bear. :)
The carbine should be out soon, hang in there! 8)

No 7.62x39 parts have been produced anywhere insofar as I'm aware.

A member here posted about doing the Bren barrel replacement.  Not too different from a SCAR if I recall.

Third, the law is however BATF decides to decide it.  Based upon your reasoning, most AR15 owners could be found guilty of the same.
My reading of lastest big letter/ruling regarding SBRs last year, is that "intention" is what classifies a pistol vs an sbr.  If you intend to convert any pistol to an SBR (without parts in possession, or in using existing parts like shoulder brace in way that "converts" to SBR by how you use them), then it is an illegal SBR... The SBR law these days is a complete morass.  So long as you try to do the right thing you should be kosher.  If you're doing other stuff where federal gun charges may be added to your offences, then perhaps be concerned.  If not, ,you're probably safe not to worry.  If wanting to be super safe, have a buddy keep parts in question in his safe (or bury them in your backyard, etc).

Double nifty! ;D 8) However, chances of it coming here are....slightly better than me beating Kimbo Slice in a full on cage match.

Ill bet you could take him. I mean not within the rules but rules are for losers. btw Kimbo Slice sounds like something that they sell late at night on network television.

2 Kimbo Slice for only $19.99!
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Did you notice that it has the same push button mag release as the 5.56 version?  Hard to tell from that one pic w/ weapon sideways and mag in it, but it would suggest a proprietary magazine...

Like with the VZ58, I can already anticipate folks -- "it doesn't take AK mags!!!  >:( "
