OOW vz2008 with serial number 561
« on: March 08, 2016, 12:42:02 AM »
The OOW (Ohio Ordnance Works) vz2000 was one of the first Vz.58 variants approved by ATF in the US and built from Czech chrome barreled kits.  Due both to OOWs stellar reputation as a top military firearms builder and with second-to-none support, these Vz.58 variants are arguably the most sought after Vz.58 variant for collectors.  While CSA rifles are still being built and imported by Czechpoint in batches, OOW stopped their limited production of the vz2000 years ago.  Asking prices for the OOW vz2000s have exceeded Czechpoint prices for the imported CSA models.

I just saw an auction listing for a vz2000 ( http://northwestmissouriauctions.com/maryville/mo/yac-llc-d-b-a-younger-auction-company/outstanding-firearm-and-military-artifact/12486 ) that shows the serial number as 561.

Up until this point my understanding was that only 500 vz2000s were manufactured.

Here is one (another green? one) on Armslist for only $1200  ($1600 with optic and ammo). Evidently the seller is I'll advise as to what he has, since he calls it an AK variant.

The post above is opinion, and I am probably totally wrong, so please pardon me if I offend anyone in any way. I am speaking only for myself and just sharing my thoughts, not trying to start an argument with anyone, and if you disagree with anything I have said, I concede your correct.

You really don't know much about the OOW 2000! They basically are reverse engineered and always have been Infamous as Jam-o-matics and OOW quit building them as soon as the D-tech ones came out! OOW could never get them to work properly and the quality is poor!

I would tend to disagree, I know several people with them and I have owned 4 myself.  Best and most reliable Vz.58 variant made in the US, hands down. An OOW vz2000 is my "go-to" gun.

Perhaps you getting confused with Ohio Rapid Fire (ORF).

One last thought: you don't know OOW. If they sold a gun (any gun) and it had any problem, it would be fixed free of charge. They stand 100% behind their builds and work from the HCAR, to the B.A.R. to all the 50 cals. they refurb for the IDF.  They have done work for me gratis, just based on a concern I had, not even a problem.

No I am not getting OOW confused with Ohio Rapid Fire!. ORF made receivers for the Vz58 kits and built some however most of their receivers were junk since not proper heat treated and wrong dimensions!

Do a search on OOW and ORF and see both are Junk, as I said OOW could never fix the feeding issues!

Is it lower than 500? Never saw one over 500 before.  I had four OOWs at one time, all were under SN 500. Never had or heard of any feed issue either.

I used to have one. It was great w/ the exception of the "OOW" marked disconnector. It frequently caused the sear to release striker when the bolt carrier was moving forward... The carrier didn't properly ride over the disconnector's rounded surface,  causing it to excessively push and dropping the striker.. I replaced the "OOW" disconnector with a CNC warrior. Problem solved....I actually bought the rifle for $700 from a guy who thought the rifle was unreliable. Other than the disconnector, it was very nice. The carrier wasn't tabbed but I never experienced the gremlin.

My D Tech receiver is a seriously hard piece of metal.  Ate those TIN bits.  I think it is high quality but my opinion shouldn't carry any weight.  Everything about the gun seems hell for stout and done well.  I have issues but then....

My two builds are made on "RAPID FIRE, Troy, OHIO" receivers and I am not certain that that is the ORF being mentioned.  The steel in those receivers is every bit as hard as the D Tech item.  I have dimension problems but they have just made the project more interesting......till this last one.  The top of the receiver IS the top rail and the RF rails are 30 thou thinner than the D Tech and the D Tech is way to thin for the carrier to begin with.  Battle clearance for dirt be darned.  This condition creates a bolt that is loose at lock-up.  How much could this condition affect accuracy?  Head space?
