75B with CGW bushing and red dot at 50 yards, range results
« on: March 17, 2016, 07:26:57 AM »
I've had a 9mm slide from the 75B frame that I use for the Kadet host for years but rarely shoot it because it never shot well compared to a P-09 or 97.  And I love shooting the Kadet anyway.  Then CGW came out with the barrel bushing and I decided to get the old slide out, install the bushing and try it.  I shot it last Sunday with good results with open sights at 25 yards, less than 2" groups from a wrist only rest, so I got another Springer Precision mount and Burris FF III 3 moa sight and installed them last night and rushed to range to zero and check before sundown.  Here is the result...

The gun finally shoots really well, even on a rushed night with me shooting it.  I expect to get this group size down to 2" at 50 yards on a good day when I am not in a rush.  My P-09 with a red dot is a sub 2" gun at 50 yards and, if this one is even close, it will be excellent, for a service gun.

Real test will be bullseye practice, single handed, standing, next Sunday, at 25 and 50 yards.  I think it will be fine.  If so, I will shoot it in the match on Easter Saturday.

Great shooting! How accurate was your CZ 75B before you replaced the barrel bushing?

Worse than most, like 6" at 50 yards with open sights.  A factory P-09 with open sights is good for somewhere around 3" with me shooting it.  My P-09 with a red dot is good for 2" at 50.

Sig just came out with the Remeo 4 series of red dot.  The Remeo 4C is a solar power and battery como.  The SP works without the battery, in low light.   It was $275 at my LGS.  It small enough for a pistol.

Jaems--that is good to hear.  Lots of options coming out now for good red dots that would work even on a defensive handgun, sounds like.

I raised my trigger pull to a little over 2 lbs-9 oz today from the 2 lbs-5 oz with the Kadet slide.  This will make the gun close to legal for centerfire with the 9mm slide and well over the 2 lbs-0 oz for rimfire.  I kinda wanted a heavier trigger anyway. Still almost too light for centerfire.  Will know more after Sunday bullseye practice session.  I might put the stock fpsb spring back in it if I haven't already.  I don't know what I left in the slide the one time I had it apart about 4 years ago, LOL.

I just hope the match trigger pull gauge is set to the middle of the trigger if and when anyone measures the pull.  If they pull from the lower end, I'll flunk.

Not sure if i could see a 3x3" piece of tape at 50 yards.  My front sight covers the black of a B8 target at 20 yards.  but then, I'm old and almost  8)

Super encouraged by your results, sir!

I'll be putting the 75BD with 10x bushing and CGW guts through the USMC Service Pistol PQS on Friday. Sights aren't CMP legal, and trigger measures light at the bottom, but it'll be on the line with some bullseye Colts & a Les Baer, for team practice. I think a fella with a bone stock 75B and a 10x bushing could do very very well at the CMP Service Pistol matches, for not a lot of $, which tends to be the reason folks give for not shooting it. And I'm always happy to see the M9 lose :)

Chaps--I shot mine in bullseye practice this morning with excellent accuracy results.  But the trigger in the Kadet host frame is too light for me to control easily with the 9mm slide.  I may heavy up the trigger pull to 3 lbs or so and see if I can control that.  Funny, the 2.5 lb trigger is fine with the 22.

I did confirm today that the accuracy of my particular 75B with CGW bushing is in line with the P-09 and 97B"E" now, and that is saying a lot.  Groups were excellent today when i didn't release the shot unexpectedly.

Here's hoping you have a good session on Friday with your lowly service gun, LOL.  My expectation is that the gun will be fine.  It's us shooters that are limiting after the gun is mechanically sound.

Joe,

Could you take a couple of pics of your 75B with the bushing installed for me?  I know where it sits, I just don't see how it fits as there isn't much room between the barrel and the slide to begin with.

Thanks!
Bro, do you even pew?

Ok, I got diverted for a few weeks with a P-07, to which I added enough Sugru to the grips and a red dot temporarily, shot and won the Easter weekend match with it with a score a few points lower per target than with the 97, but still good results.  I've move the red dot back to the 75B slide and will be shooting it for a few weeks next

I've already heavied up the trigger pull and zeroed the sight again.  I need to replace a firing pin and retaining pin combination and then get to work at the bullseye range.   I need to put the stock parts back in for use with the 17# hammer spring that I use with the Kadet slide.
