I use acetone (usually my wife's nail polish remover) to clean my TS frame then stick skateboard grip tape. Usually it sticks well, even to the waffle checkering.

I make the pieces for the front- and back-straps big enough to tuck under the grips, which helps to keep them in place. You can also heat the tape with a hair dryer after application and push it down to assist in sticking.

For the backstrap i cut four little triangle notches on the sides (two on each side) to help fit the curve without crumpling.

My grip tape template is here:

I'll have to try and clean the frames a little better in the future I guess... I like those triangle slits you used on the back strap Lemming, they look like they will work better than some of the relief cuts I've tried previously. Here in Utah it's a little cold in the winters and it seems like that is the time I put grip tape on pistols for some reason. The hair drier may be the other trick I  need to get the tape malleable enough to get some better adherence. Thanks for sharing James and Lemming!

I'm scared

Here in Durban,  South Africa we all complain about the weather being freezing cold when it drops below 70 degrees Fahrenheit

I clean my straps with either lighter fluid (Naptha) or brake cleaner,  and use a rag to scrub it dry and tape residue free.
Works.

Just got hte GT5000 tape, it fits curves quite well, but it's not super tacky. I have sweaty hands so it's a bit better, but I think skate tape or osmething would be better.

This stuff would be great for concealed carry though since it won't catch/rub on clothing and skin.

Another +1 for skateboard tape. I heat it up with a heat gun before applying. Works great.
I got a sheet (lifetime's supply) from these guys for $7 shipped:

Hey guys I was searching for something similar and found this thread.

For skateboard and 3M safety tape - do they leave any residual when you remove it?

I bought the universal DIY kit of gray textured rubber from Traction Grips and cut a piece for the front strap on my matte stainless 75B. It looks good and has held up well. It comes in black too. They also sell their version of skateboard type tape.

Yes.  As I mention above,  naptha takes the residue off.  Most solvents will do the same.

If the tape is thick,  it may need some very small "V" notches cut on the sides so it will lay flat around compound curves on the back strap.

I like the weak hand thumb pad on the frame.  I did the same thing.

A heat gun or a hair dryer will set the adhesive and also make the tape soften and conform. I always heat the area after degreasing before applying the tape and again after the tape is applied. This makes those corners lay down and sets the adhesive for a firm grip that cannot move around during use. I will wear the grit off the tape long before it ever lets go or any of the corners turn loose.

Here's some interesting info I saved from an old thread:

For grip tape, I found a dime is a perfect radius for the front strap and a nickel is the perfect radius for the back strap.  I like the look of rounded ends on the tape.

Suggestion: The tape has a backer that peels off before applying the tape.
If you carefully draw the pattern you prefer on the backer.  cut it out,  apply the tape and then be sure to keep that backer as the pattern for your next replacement.
