Just replaced the stock rear SDP compact sight with the 10-8 Novak sight and went to the range. Dead center on! It shot POA/POI. It fit a little on the loose side but just a bit of peening and it was just perfect. At 10yrds shooting freehand it put all 6 rounds in a 3" bullseye. No more 4-6 low!!! Well worth the $55 dollars.

This was my experience as well (though I also changed front sights.)  It was shooting a little low but now shoots POA.  I've only shot 124gr ammo through it but I still need to try my 147gr carry ammo...
Good to hear it's working for you guys as well.

I installed the rear 10-8 sight and it fit slightly loose. Just a slight peening of the dovetail was needed.

Did you peen the sight dovetail or the frame dovetail?

Frame dovetail, didn't take much. Just do a little at a time.

I took a starter punch and made two small dimples on the sight dovetail. I thought about the frame , but decided there might come a time when different sights are available. My Frame already had been peened by the factory

You can use any Novak 1911 sight.  I just like the 10-8

I am looking around to install an optical sight (red dot). My eyes are getting old and I need something totally different.

Mill the slide, or try a Novak mount for a red dot

Awesome! Thanks for taking the time!. Would it be possible to measure the height from the bottom of the dovetail for comparison? I see a small gap under the factory sight. If the gap differed between the two by design, that would change the equation.

Thanks for the advice Dannoman!  I've had the same problem with my Sphinx SDP Subcompact Alpha and happen to have a set of 10-8 sights for a Glock 23 available.  My gunsmith conducted the transplant and tomorrow I hope to try out the combination.  Like you said, the match seems perfect!

ETA: It works!!!  :)  I tried out the new sight combination yesterday at 15 yards and here's the result.  My first shots were fired using a 6:00 hold on bottom of the (new) diamond target.  Seeing that my rounds (147 grain Federal HST standard pressure loads) were impacting at Point of Aim, I lined up the tops of my front and rear sights on the center of the diamond.  I can't express how relieved I am to have FINALLY found a working solution to the low impact issue.

Thanks danno_man.   I have a rear tritium that will work.  Do you know whether they will sell a front only for self installation?  I did send a message asking if they would sell me a front sight.
