That's a Century VZ2008. Huh. I wonder if these are older builds or new ones or what? I notice their example has the split trigger guard, which seemed to come on earlier builds. At this point, $700 for a new VZ2008 with 3 mags seems like an ok deal.

I purchased my Century Arms VZ2008 from Palmetto early last year and the lower receiver does not have any stamped markings on the right of the lower receiver . So it looks like it may be a newer batch!?

Well, I'm not sure how much we can glean from the photo - who knows if that's from this batch but it has the Gen 2 Serial Number convention: VZ08-002xxx. If that's the case, these are older than the Palmetto batch.

On that link, note that you're buying a "rife" not a "rifle".   :D

This variant has previously been reported here: http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=62802.msg509401#msg509401
Just bumped that thread w/ updated info.

First I've seen full pics, including right side though.
Typically, I have only seen stampings on the receiver immediately to the rear of the front handguard and on the front side block.

The stamping location on right is definitely unique.

Not serial number difference from earlier "PM" rifles.  It goes VZ08-number<space>PM
Earlier versions were VZ08PM-number

The PSA and AIM surplus rifles (best I recall) all had clean right sides except for F & S markings, and with all other markings on left hand side.  The ones from those that I still have do.

My B&R machine VZ2008 (my first, purchased from Centerfire Guns) has manufacturer stampings on both sides of the receiver...

Regardles, let's focus on the postive here folks -- PSA and AIM had the rifle, 4-5 mags, cleaning kit and bayonet, at $399.  Value of items is at least $100.  So we paid in the $299 ballpark for our rifles.
These Atlantic guns are $699, or 2.3 times the value of what we paid.  So those of us buying through that deal, doubled our money in a year or two...

Also worth noting that the CZ-USA, Dtechnic, TGI imports were in the $799 range when first hitting the market just a few years back...

Ahh, I didn't see the final 'PM'. I agree - we got a great deal!
Still, it's nice to see these up for sale, along with seeing CSA builds being sold somewhere besides Czechpoint.

For $300 more I think it would be wise to buy a Czechpoint CSA VZ58, which IMO are much higher quality and known to work.

A little more than that ($366) w/ cheapest rifle on Czechpoint's site listed at $1065.  Vs $699 for the Century, that equates to Century costing 66% or 2/3rds of the cost of a Czechpoint, or cheapest Czechpoint costing 52% more than this expensive Century.

Also know that you will get no bayonet lug, a polymer trigger, and require 922r conversions to your mags at that Czechpoint price...  To eliminate needing to convert all your mags @ $7.50 or so a mag for us polymer follower and floor plate if I recall correctly, you need to do at least two parts.  Pistol grip, piston, handguard furniture, the sear, etc, are standards -- and Czechpoint is using the muzzle nut here as a US part as well, and all of the best VZ58 muzzle devices are foreign made which makes it +3 not +2.  So easily another $100 to get to a functional 922r US parts mix.

To the Century, they may have made changes to receivers from the $300-$400 guns of last year with shallow bottom receiver shelves.  We don't know, so I would be hesitant to say this rifle is the same...
For Century, you're going to want to tab and piston and springs, so that's another $100 or so there too, so that's a wash.

I look forward to reports on this latest Century.

Just fyi on the mags, the u.s. parts are required when the rifle is manufactured,(conversions from importable to unimportable are consider manufacturing) but the ATF has stated that in no way does changing the magazine constitute remanufacturing the rifle, so it is not required to have u.s. parts in all your maazines, just the ones it was manufactured with

Except for an 'occasional' rear sight with slot custom welded-up and re-cut off-center by the "quality" control guru there
-hiding other issues
-ruining the symmetry of the sights
and potential repair not covered by warranty

Yes, changing the mag itself it not considered assembly.  However, the batf has stated that if any parts are changed beyond just the mag, then that does constitute assembly. It's unclear if just 922r parts, or even including routine maitenace like spring changes.
Want a new handguard, pistol grip, fcg, muzzle device, etc, then the assembly threshold and 922r and the 5 or 10 year limit on prosecution begins from that date...  All of these are 922r parts.
IMO, better safe than sorry w/ anything involving the batf.  Just saw this story the other day: http://www.thenewrifleman.com/it-should-concern-us-all-nfa-violation-in-arkansas/

Franz -- good to see you.  I really thought I'd see you pop up in this thread: http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=74666.30
VZ58rifle.com has a new windage adjustable rear sight!  Maybe Czechpoint will start substituting those instead of fixing severely canted front sights?
