Grip screws coming loose.
« on: April 20, 2016, 10:29:26 AM »
Any ideas or tricks to try to keep grip screws tight on a cz compact with the cz ub  aluminum  grips. I use the gun for idpa shooting. When shooting strong hand or weak hand shooting the opposite side grip will loosen up. Small o ring under the screw? Purple loc tite? Thanks.

Try a small o-ring, that's what I did with my VZ grips on my SP-01 and its working.

I do not like the idea of loc tite. Even the low strength purple. I will go by the hardware store and see what I can find. Thanks.

Clear nail varnish on the threads, or what I do: start the screw, then wrap a small rubber band around it and tighten down. Trim the excess off with a razor blade or exacto knife. lasts forever - or until you take the grips off.

Another vote for the o-rings.  I used to know the number of the appropriate o-ring, but have forgotten it.  Take one of your grip screws with you to the hardware store and find some that fit snugly on the threaded portion of the screw just below the screw head.

The local hardware store had split-ring lock washers to.fit mine.   Buy spares-  easliy lost when removing grips.

I have used small 0-rings under the grip screws on 1911's for years with success.

However, I recently purchased a CZ Custom Shadow and the grip screws were coming loose.  So i installed O-rings under the screws.  But because the Shadow has very thin aluminum grips, the O-ring under the screws do not allow the screw to tighten enough.  As a result, the screw heads are "proud" and stick out just a bit.  Enough that I can actually feel them touching the insides of my hands when shooting.

So I recently removed the O-rings and added a bit of blue Loctite to the screw threads.  We'll see how that works at the match I shoot tomorrow evening.

I have used blue Loctite on screws to mount scope rings on rifles and Trijicon RMR red dot sights on pistols in the past, and it has worked great and still has allowed me to remove the optics without excessive effort.  Be sure you don't use red Loctite for this application!

Blue Loctite is your friend. Trust it.

Shot a 100-round match today with the grip screws secured by blue Loctite.  No problems.

Mine don't come loose with split ring or star washers to fit.
