CZ Varmint
« on: July 12, 2016, 06:57:05 PM »
Hello - I currently own a CZ 455 American in .22 LR and am pretty new to this forum. This is  my first CZ rifle and I am very impressed, so much so that I am looking for another one. There are many people who seem unhappy the 452 is no longer available. Is this because the 455 has interchangeable barrels? When I first learned of this I though it was a little bit of a gimmick but now that I own one of these rifles I don't think so. Mine shoots very well and I have no intention of swapping barrels. Surely there will be a lot of opinions on this but I am curious to know why the 452 is missed. Currently I am lusting after the Varmint model and I am trying to figure out if I should buy a 455 or spend more time looking for a 452 Varmint.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Hector

I have a 452 varmint in 17 hmr , and a 452 American in 22M , personally I like the American stock better than the varmint and wish I had got the sporter barrel trainer or American version for my 17 hmr gun . so I guess I saying handle the heavy barrel varmint first .

hcaroselli, Great post about your 455 American in 22lr. As to the 452 rifles, I have two, one is a 452 FS 22lr with a gehman 590 rear peep sight and a CZ std match front globe sight, the other is a 452 17hmr trainer with CZ std match set sights. The 452 platform is a great shooting platform and if you search this website and the Rimfire Central website you will find out that the reason that this platform is missed because of the fit and finish of the rifles and their accuracy right out of the box. Secondly the platform was around for a long time and that was a big factor in the quality of the workmanship from the factory and the availibilty of accessories was and is plentiful to help further improve accuracy. Now that the 455 platform has some years of manufacturing, the quality of the workmanship is great along with comparable accuracy similar to the 452 out of the box. The 455 platform allows for barrel swap not only from CZ but also third party accesories vendors to make this platform of rifles more enjoyable to shoot. You can find 452 still for sale on Whitakers, Gun Broker's website or even on this or RFC's website in the selling and/or trading sections. The 455 platform is here for awhile and like you those who have them speak highly of them. In closing, I have a 455 Varmint 17 hmr heavy barrel with 22lr heavy barrel as well as a 453 American 22lr and all my rimfires are fun to shoot. Pardon the length of this reply
