Gear Head Works safety selector install issue
« on: July 17, 2016, 04:24:01 PM »
So far I've spent 1-1/2 hours trying to perform this simple install.  I should be able to do it with my eyes closed but I just can't get the screw to thread back in.  Everything appears to line up well enough but it won't catch the threads.  The screw isn't stripped because it threads easily into the safety pin when it's removed from the gun but as soon as it goes in I can't get it to catch the threads.
Has anybody else had trouble with this install and if so do you have any tips you could pass on to help me out.  I can't begin to describe how frustrating this is.

I don't ask this to troll because I did the exact same thing; is your actual safety bar upside down?  I did it and it 1. Won't actuate the safety and 2. Makes it offset a fraction of a millimeter so the set screw won't thread in.

Did you lift up on the little hook for the trigger case that the safety bar sets into?
If you don't you cant seat it fully.

Top right in that photo.
That is what the safety locks into.

You guys are good!  That's definitely the problem.  Now I just have to play with it until I get it seated properly.  Bill_J, you mentioned lifting the little hook but the video that John A linked to specifically says not to do that but instead to keep working it and it'll eventually pop in place.
It's funny that none of the videos I watched that specifically dealt with installing the safety selector said anything about this.
I'm gonna go work on it now and I'll report back.  Thanks guys.

tcoz, Id agree with not lifting it for fear of bending it, and causing problems down the line with tension on the safety selector.

However Ive tried for a bit each time its been apart to slip it in like he does in that video, no dice.  Mine just needs the tiniest bit of upward pressure to make it happen.  Maybe my little pin on the safety is a bit too long or something.

Glad you got it back together!

Well, that did it.  45 seconds and I had it in.  The arm did have to be raised using a very thin flat blade screwdriver.  Because the safety selector on the other side was attached it isn't really possible to maneuver the safety bar into the correct position like the video shows without raising the arm.
Thank goodness I swallowed my pride and asked the question here.  I felt like a real idiot in having to do so though.

It's a brand new carbine (w/brake) that I just picked up yesterday.  Now I'm gonna start another thread this time asking about initial lubrication.
I owe you guys big time.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger...I fought this same problem after putting in my HBI springs.

I'm glad there was so much great help here to get the safety installed. You aren't the first person to miss that. I get calls on it regularly. We found that all we have to do is rotate the safety from the left side and rotate it back and forth and everything pops back into place.

As with any of our products, feel free to contact us by phone or email on the card that came with your order, or through the website.

I'm having this same exact issue--this is what caused me to create my previous thread (I was testing whether there was a problem with my screws and then the screw got stuck).

Does anyone know any shortcuts? I really regret trying to switch my safety now. I think I am going to have to take this to a gunsmith.

I had the same issue with alignment. It really has to be perfect for the screw to go in.

Not just geahead, same issues with parker mountain. I also discovered if you fully reassemble the trigger pack safety andall with the screw left out that mounts it to the trigger guard, it's easier to cycle from safe to fire and also helps line the screw up. It's as if you have the trigger pack mounted to the lower first it puts extra pressure on the levers making it harder to align.

I wanted to update everyone. I spoke with the company I bought my selector from and the owner told me that CZ has recently changed the tolerances on the trigger packs, which makes the selector much more difficult to attach.  So if you have a newer Scorpion, you very well could have difficulty putting a selector safety switch back on.

I'm not exaggerating when I say I spent 4 hours working on this and I consider myself a mildly intelligent human being. I really don't think it was physically possible to reattach it without rebuilding the trigger pack and starting from scratch or knowing some type of trick.

EDIT: I'm going to have to get a new trigger pack or take it to a gunsmith.

did you try installing it outside of the receiver ? so you got a little play with the flexible sheet metal trigger pack case walls. I had some trouble with aftermarket's not lining up myself but not to this degree, it just took alot of fiddling with it and wondering wtf was wrong then eventually it just all lined up. ever since the first install they now re-install with no problem.
