Haven't received the American yet, but My Bushnell Legend came today. Wow, I'm glad I chose this scope--the Mil-Dot is not too thick and not too fine--looks practical for critters and target shooting at distance.

Thanks to the recent photos posted with the Legend (Staggsofdryvalley), I think I can get by with lower rings, since my 452 American doesn't have iron sights. My only concern is clearance for the bolt???

I think I might be able to use rings lower than the 0.60" Talley High rings. But I will wait till the rifle arrives so I can see how much clearance I need for the bolt movement.

Advice appreciated! This scope doesn't have AO on the bell, but measures 2.03 inch in diameter for the objective bell and 41.02mm for the ocular.

Staggsofdryvalley: Thanks for all the good info on the Bushnell Legend. I want to mount mine as low as possible on the CZ 452 American (which may arrive this week). It has no iron sights to worry about.

But my concern is the ocular bell (measures about 1.51 inches in diameter). If I mount as low to the barrel as possible--will the bolt throw clear the ocular on the Bushnell Legend 4.5-14X44?

Thinking of using rings that are about 0.55 inch tall from bottom of scope ring to bottom of clamps. I figure I need about 0.53" clearance for the objective bell (depending on where I set it along the taper of the the sporter tapered barrel).

If I have to use higher rings to clear the bolt movement, I will, but I still want to keep it as low as I can.

I have a set of UTG rimfire/airgun rings on one rifle and a set of Hawke Sport Optics Match Series on my best rifle. I like the Hawke the best; but both of these are ROCK-Solid. I used Talley rings to mount a scope on my Dad's .270 WSM and they have been immovable for a few years now, so I know they are great. But the Hawke rings are a real bargain for a product so well made and designed that I can't find anything about them I don't like.

So, How low can I keep it and still have room for the bolt movement?

Thanks for yer help!

PS: Sent Staggs a PM, but I thought I would post the question here too for others who get this scope and a 452 American.

This seems to be an excellent setup. I have no experience with the Bushnell Legend series, but I'm going to give them a look.

Squirrels just seem to hang around this CZ/Bushnell Legend Combo.

Thanks, 2bytandem. Squirrels always sleep with one eye open.

This has turned out to be a great choice of scope for this rifle. Not only for squirrels but especially for target shooting where the SF Parallax knob and the 14X magnification range really shine.

For the price I paid for the Legend, the optical clarity and resolution cannot be beat without spending at least $200+ more!
