FO front for carry?
« on: August 06, 2016, 06:32:34 PM »
Does anyone use a FO front sight for their carry gun?  Any issues with it as far as breakage or anything else?

I have gotten to where I like the FO front better than factory or night sights on the front of the gun.

8 years ago I traded into a G34 to use in IDPA.  It came with Warren Tactical Sevigny Comps.  Tall blacked out rear, and a 1mm fiber front.  I instantly fell in love.  the 1mm front sight was perfect for those pesky tight shots, and the blcked out rear makes it a breeze to gain sight picture.

I recently sold my 34 setup to fund a PM9 and comp gear. The sights were switched to my EDC G19.  I carry IWB anywhere from 1:30-3:00.  The tall rear sight sometimes digs into my belly when sitting, and I should switch to the rear carry site. The Pm9 comes with a 1.5mm front, and adjustable blacked out rear.  I prefer the 1mm.

I also use a paint pen and paint the inside of the front sight white.  I feel this helps reflect a little more light into the fiber.  I have found that I prefer red for indoors, and green for outdoors.

I have a CZ Custom fo front sight on my PCR with a CZ Custom short tac rear. I carry it daily and have no issues at all. I find it to be an excellent setup.

I like them better than anything else. Even if the FO were to fail and fall out you still have a very serviceable front sight. All my carry guns have these. Dawson Precision now makes a low profile carry rear with an FO front. They are low profile sights but still give a competition sight picture.

viking, I carry my CZ 75BD occasionally, so not sure how much abuse I've put it through.  I've also used it in IDPA and the CGW front sight has survived without any problems.  Also, I've had no snags that I can remember.  I did switch to a CZC Tactical Rear because it's a little more streamline.

Do you use the solid black so the FO rears?

Solid black rear. I am looking for the front sight only and the FO rear is a little busy for me.

My previous carry gun sported Trijicon HDs after years of using plain black rears with fiber fronts on previous guns. It was cool at first but I found them to be fairly useless when shooting, especially when you are using a handheld light or weaponlight. Even without the light, though, I found they get washed out by the muzzle flash pretty easily.

My new carry gun sports a plain black rear with fiber front, although they are just backup irons for my RMR.

Might need to pick up another FO front to try on my carry gun.

I prefer this set up too. Help with focus on the front sight.
