So I gutted my CZ85 pre-b and did the magwell mod to fit mec-gar mags.
Stripped it all down, and filed the lower edge of the magwell, and the spot right below the sear cage. The mags dropped free. No binding on the frame.
Re-assembled everything, and am seeing something weird. The rear top of the magazine appears to bind/ rub on the front face of the sear cage, but only in certain conditions.
-The mags drop free with the slide locked back. The mags also drop free with the slide closed and the hammer dropped.
-The mags DO NOT drop free with the slide closed, and the hammer cocked. Also, if I remove the slide, the mags do not drop free in any condition.
It's almost as if the sear cage is moving forward and backwards, but how? It dosent do that, does it? The most I can move the sear cage by hand is rocking it forward and backward, and that is only about .050- .010 or so - not enough to affect the magazine binding up.
There is no unusual binding/ rubbing that I can feel when putting the slide on the lower grip frame.
The really weird thing is I can actually see the difference. With the
slide off, the magazine clearly has to hop over the sear cage which causes the binding.
With the
slide on, looking thru the ejection port, I can see the rubbing on the sear cage is very minimal. ( If I hold the mag release, then the "hop" is very minimal, if not non-existent )
Any ideas?
