Carbine Enroute to FFL - Suggestions Sought
« on: September 28, 2016, 02:23:48 PM »
What began as a PCR purchase earlier in the Summer led to a P-01 weeks later, and just a couple days ago, I purchased a CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Carbine (CA compliant).  On a bit of a whim, I admit...

The CZ handguns are being "Cajunized" (Pro Package, the PCR done already), new sights (TruGlo Brite-Site TFX Pro), and other goodies...

I'm reading through this forum to get ideas of course, educate myself, but what are some of the more popular, desirable mods one might want to consider?  As with the CZ handguns, HD is primary purpose for the Scorpion purchase, and hopefully plenty of fun at the range.

The ambi safety delete, trigger replacement or modification, sights / optics I imagine might be up there, from what little reading I've done already.

Was hoping to find a photos thread, one dedicated to the Scorpions, but have not found such yet.  Kindly share if one exits...

Thanks much.

I've made several changes and the only one's that made the most difference was the HBI spring replacement and the right side AK 47 long safety.  The iron sights on the carbine are top notch and don't need to be changed at all.

Really good to know longgonedaddy, especially on the iron sights!  Thanks much.

I've been on the HBI website, think via a sticky thread...  So, with the spring replacement, do feel the trigger is now ideal, to your liking, or might there be more that can or should be done?

Picked up a Cal compliant carbine as well & turned it featureless. Then I upgraded with hb trigger spring kit, theta trigger shoe, paddle mag release, mini ak safety & the theta extended charging handle. Definitely worth the upgrades. Besides optics in the future, I'm completely satisfied w/ its set up.

The spring kit is the most dramatic improvement for the price IMO. It takes the pull down about 4.5# and is hard to beat for 9 bucks. The reset could be better, but the kit only assists with trigger pull weight. I also noticed that my scorpion has less of a "hump" when charging due to the reduced weight springs.

Gritz, thanks for the commentary.  Bang-for-the-buck, sounds like a fantastic way to spend 9 bucks.  You know how it goes though, if I'm in there, what else should I tackle?  Thus my wondering...  Over the next couple of days, maybe wait until the end of the weekend, I'll compile a shopping list.  It will include the spring for sure!

Given the wait, I won't take possession until 10/18, so I have time to get some goodies.  I'm generally all about function, but I'd be open to some dress-up, aesthetics too, adding a bit of color possibly.  That is why I asked for the photos thread, or one reason at least...  I was searching on "photos" not "picitures" so I think that is why I didn't find it myself...

Thanks for the input everyone.

I've made the obligatory trigger spring swap which is the best and probably cheapest upgrade you can make.  I also swapped the trigger shoe but it was mostly an aesthetic change.  The paddle mag release made a big difference for quick mag changes and the theta extended charging handle has saved a lot of cursing and scraped knuckles.

tcoz, thanks for chiming-in too.  Sounds a lot or everything you and others have mentioned is sold by HBI.  I imagine others too have such offerings, so I'll look and compare.  When it comes to aesthetics, red is not my thing, but wouldn't might some dark blue, but I don't see that option at HBI, or elsewhere at the moment.  Many more vendors to check though...

Thanks again.

Yes, the trigger is to my liking.  It would be better if their was a reach reduction kit available for it like with the CZ pistols.  But, really, the reach isn't a problem for me.  It was the pull weight.  The springs fixed that.  I also added the Shooter's Element flat trigger shoe.  With it's flat face it actually makes the trigger reach a touch longer.   But the flat angle offsets that when you pull the trigger.  So many of the replacement parts are out of stock.  Don't let that bother you because, while they are nice, it's not that big of a deal if you don't change the parts.

Man, I just shot the luster off of making fun mods...sorry...

Nah, don't feel that way one bit.  Much appreciated.  Between mods on guns, cars,  projects on the house and in the yard, I want to be be smart about this, time and money often become a factor at some point...

I just found your shooter's Element flat trigger, a video here:

Much reading to do, before I pull the trigger, on a trigger, and other stuff!  Trigger shoe to be more accurate...

For one considering optics for co-witness sighting, any recommendations for absolute and lower 1/3?

I found a thread where a couple guys here went with Holosun offerings, like the Holosun 403GL.  The battery life a big plus with that one...

I will continue searching and reading, but figured I'd ask here too...  Thanks.
