So this is my first CZ and definitely not my last. My first impressions are that the feel and quality of the firearm are awesome. I currently carry a 4.5 XDM .45 and it just feels cheap in comparison. This SP-01 compact is so heavy it outweighs my fully loaded XDM, which I consider a plus. I do hate the stock trigger and will need to be upgraded soon. I am very much an amateur to modifying firearms in general, so please forgive me in advance for all the questions. I blame you all for the following: 1. Convincing me to buy this 2. Probably selling my XDM and buying many more CZs 3. CGWs is now the most visited site on my work comp.

So those are the night sights that came on your compact?

Yes sir, which was a nice surprise because the only details the website provided was "3 dot sights"

On initial inspection I saw the chip on the beaver tail, not gonna lie it bothered me a bit. After I saw the group, I could care less about the chip lol.

Welcome aboard! There's tons of great threads in the gunsmithing section, they helped me a ton when I got my first CZ. But always feel free to ask any questions, we are happy to help. You made a great choice for your first CZ, IMHO!

Thanks! I can't wait to get started, I'm still in the research phase. I recently found the write up on your SP-01 compact. She sounds like a dream to shoot.

Oh good, hope it helps. Doing the upgrades like that was meticulous and time consuming. I'm in the process of doing upgrades on 3 of the SP-01 Compacts for friends. I'll have some updates to post on that thread pretty soon. Possibly with a sample size of 4 to 5 when I am done.

I wouldn't necessarily call them nights sights. The set on mine are not tritium. They are luminous, like the hands and markers on a wrist watch.

Mine are pretty poor. The rear looks faded. The front is just barely better. I'm not really surprised since my 75B was the same way, and they'll be one of the first things I'll change out.

That's a better description. I carry a streamlight so I usually hit them  once and they glow bright. They don't stay bright for long though. I plan to upgrade as well, but that trigger has waaay too much slack in single action.

can you give a model or item number for those dawson sights??
[/quote]

Sure: SKU: 310-218

https://dawsonprecision.com/dawson-precision-cz-p-01-carry-fixed-sight-set-black-rear-black-front/

BTW, YMMV but mine was printing consistently 1.5"-2" low for me at 7yrds and was still printing nearly that low out to 20-25yrds. Again, YMMV because everyone's hold/grip/eyes are different...

I like a "semi-6 o'clock hold" whereas I like my shots to print right at the top of the front blade in close at 7yrds, and so I can "lollipop" a 6" steel plate at 25yrds (so maybe hitting 2-3" high at 25yrds). Dawson doesn't make a .135" front blade in plain-black (which is probably what I'd need as this front is .150" tall), they said they'd make one for me if I could wait 3-4 weeks or so... That said, since the customer service at Dawson is awesomeness, the guy gave me another option of getting an FO front sight at 50% off which they already have in a .135" height that would be in my mailbox in a few days; so, even though I do prefer all-black sights for their crispness and "unclutteredness", I took the FO option and I'm going to try out the FO front blade because I'm impatient LOL.
All that said, I'm a little concerned and have some misgivings about going to such a short front blade, as now the front's height will be equal to the width of my rear-notch (.135), which might be weird..? If it's lame, I'm pretty confident Dawson will help me to get things right, as I'll then have to go to a taller rear and back to a taller front... I'm going to get this sucker to print where I want, it's just a matter of many sight swaps it's going to take LOL!

Do to my work schedule, getting to matches or the outdoor ranges has been getting harder and harder, since I can hit closer drive-wise local indoor matches/ranges, thinking I can combat the crappy lighting better when shooting indoors with the FO... I hope anyways.

BTW/FWIW I changed a couple other little things: as for grips, the compact LOK "Bogie" palm-swell grips are fantastic! ...and went to the "old style" 85C trigger w/ red Loctite on the over-travel screw instead of the "thick" 97 trigger, which took away a bunch of over-travel I really didn't think was there or bothersome until I felt it without it, and made the reach to DA a bit better as the LOK grips are about just as thick as the stock rubber grips. Plus, after thinking about it maybe too much, I'm not 100% certain the 97 trigger in a 75-variant would be considered 100% legal when shooting IDPA if one were to nitpick, and if I decide to shoot some IDPA with this gun (which I'm sure I will) I wouldn't want to get DQ'd or feel like a cheater (I know, it's no big deal really, but it would be lame to run into someone who feels otherwise).

I dont plan to edc the sp01 compact. I also like the semi 6 oclock hold. The only sure way to get the sight picture I like is with an adjustable rear or just get lucky and find someone that has a proven fixed set up that will impact directly above the front sight. Any suggestions on a fixed set as far as height of the front and whixh rear?

I have been discussing sights with Stuart at CZC, and I am having them mill it for a Heinie Slant Pro, #360P rear sight, and a gold outlined 6.5mm tritium front. If you would like a tritium rear, use Heinie part #365P.
