Ugly Duckling VZOR 70

A while back a buddy sold me a well used 70 for $100. I figured it would make a good candidate to learn how to slow rust blue. While I had it apart I did some internal polishing and broke some of the sharp edges to make it feel better in hand. I used Laurel Mountain's bluing solution and added a set of Tigerwood Marschal grips. Thanks to SP01SHADOW for putting up with my many questions.

Very nice! Congrats on the superb renewal of an oldie. Any issues with the fitting of the Marschal zebrawood grips, especially around the op lever?

Thanks for the compliment! The grips required very minor fitting around the groove that fits around the back strap. Also, the left panel interferes with the de-cocking function. That isn't to say that quality isn't good, I think the grips transform the gun into something special. I was fortunate that he happened to have this set ready so I didn't have to wait for them to be made. I won't shoot this gun very often, but I enjoy looking at it and showing it off to friends. Everytime the safe is opened, I'm compelled to pick it up.

Astonishing what a nice bluing job can do for an older (non-minty) gun! Thinking I want to do that with my CZ 70 now! :D

I came up with a great system for rust bluing in the Winter months. I purchase one of those Vick's Vaporizers and put it in the bottom off a large wooden apple box that is 40" tall. Fill the vaporizer with water, add a little sea salt and you are in the rust bluing business! Hang you parts in the top and plug it up. I used some scrap plywood for the door and it made an excellent sweat box. Parts will turn red in less than 2 hours. Just thought I would pass it along.

That's a great idea! My wife doesn't appreciate me hanging gun parts in the guest bathroom and filling the tub with hot water. Sounds like I need to build a sweatbox. I de-plated a pre-b this weekend, time to blue shortly.
