End Plate Won't Budge :(
« on: November 02, 2016, 11:03:25 PM »
I've received my tax stamp and want to toss on a stock but I can't quite get the end plate off. I'm pressing the pin fully, hammering the bottom of the plate so that it slides off, and it won't even move a little bit. I've thought about penetrating oil and then trying to see if it'll move. I've tried different hammers and I basically want it off since I'll never put it back on. What am I doing wrong?

I had to really push the pin in far, and used a hard rubber mallet very hard to get it to move. As soon as it moved "off" the pin it came off but you still have beat the snot out of it. Don't be shy when striking it!.

It is a HUGE pain in the butt to get off the first time, and mine took hammer blows as well, on and off. I did the same thing - put an accessory tube on there so I never, ever have to go through that again. Try some oil, might help. It's not in contact with anything but the groove in the back of the receiver, not going to hurt anything. BTW, your rear sight isn't too far back and blocking upward travel?
Old video, not mine, shows things well.

Remember that time where I tried to get off this end plate and sheared off a sling mount with a rubber mallet from the Scorpion? 😐

But, the end plate came off so?

Mine required a bit of tapping with a rubber mallet, but by no means hammering.

It is difficult to keep the button fully depressed while tapping.
It just needs to stick out a slight amount to bind it up.

I would recommend having someone else hold the button in while you tap.

So you broke the aftermarket sling mount getting it off? At least it wasn't a high dollar lesson in mechanical engineering.  ;D

Try tapping it down with a rubber mallet. I remember correctly when I tried to remove mine it wouldn't  move going up but when I tapped it down it came right off. Seemed a little counterintuitive but it worked.

OP, did you get it removed?

It shouldn't be that hard.  If you have installed QD sling mounts on the back factory sling attachment, it may be interfering with removal.
