EZ/D 9-40 Sight fitment question
« on: November 25, 2016, 09:01:37 PM »
I would like to order a set of these this weekend for my pre-b transitional. The Dawson website says the 75 front dovetail depth is different than the SP-01. Are the front sights the same? The CGW site says it fits both.

I always use a few layers of painter's tape on the aluminum punch included for the rear sight to keep it from transferring any aluminum from the punch to the sight when you drive it in the dovetail.

I used to use this method but got a great sight pusher on Amazon for $80, ooohhhh so worth it especially considering the cost of sights, I've used it on dozens of sight replacements and adjustments (mostly CZ's) with never an issue......link below

No they are not, there are two different depth dovetails as Dawson's website shows.  The SP01 and Shadows have a bull barrel and I suspect that is the reason for the shallow dovetail.  You would be better off installing just the rear EZ/Drift sight from CGW.  Go shoot the pistol and determine your point of impact offset using all the different types of ammunition you use.  Then order the correct sight directly from Dawson using their calculator on the website to get the right front blade height to account for POI offset.  You will spend a little extra for the separate orders but in the end you will have a gun that shoots point of aim.

Make sure you get the right depth dovetail sight (0.085" for standard 75) when ordering from Dawson.

Cheers,
Toby

I already ordered the set from CGW. SP01Shadow hasn't steered me wrong yet. It would be nice to have some clarification from Schmecky on this though.

Just measure the thickness of the front sight dovetail before install.  You won't be able to install the sp01 front sight in a standard 75 dovetail.  The thickness of the dovetail on the front sight should be about 0.085".  It should match the depth of the dovetail in your gun, just measure it with the front sight out.

Hopefully the sight height is good and the gun will zero at 25yd.

Cheers,
Toby
