CZ 75 D compact or CZ 75 PCR
« on: December 06, 2016, 06:59:20 PM »
What's the difference between the 75 D Compact and the PCR? I'm looking to cc and have a leaf on a75D Compact but keep hearing about pcr. ? Are they the same or different?

The roll mark on the slide is the only difference. The roll marks change depending on the market in some cases. I would make sure the pistol you are looking at has an aluminum frame and dose not have a rail.

Here is a picture of my PCR with the 75D roll mark.

CZ 75 D or P01? Yes

The PCR has an alloy frame instead of the steel frame on the 75. So the weight is several ounces lighter.

They are the SAME......you won't see the terminology PCR on the 75D Compact gun itself.....the "D" stands for "Decocker", it has an alloy frame, and no rail...hence it is a PCR (Police Czech Republic) model......unless you are really familiar with CZ terminology it can be kinda confusing, you're doing right by asking the question.  Even the CZ-USA sight lists it as a CZ 75D PCR Compact (see link below) even though like I said you won't see PCR anywhere on the firearm, though it will be printed on the gun case label. Its very common to see CZ's listed with different verbage for the same gun.......you just need to be more informed (smarter) than those listing or selling CZ's that don't know what it is they have and are incorrectly describing what they think they selling.....dealers too.  Basically you need to know the answers to the questions your going to ask them  :o

This is the one in looking at

The pictured CZ is a P-01. A CZ P-01 has a rail. A CZ PCR has no rail. Otherwise they are quite similar.

This is kinda what I was mentioning in my previous post......CZ came out with a CZ 75D Compact "w/rail" that is exactly like a P-01......though its not technically a P-01, a P-01 says "P-01" on the slide........I know its confusing, CZ brings guns made for other countries into the US, the same gun is called one thing here and called something else there....so when the guns are in the same market (US) it makes for some confusion as to what you are actually getting.....hence, buyers need to do some due diligence when they aren't sure......like your doing here.   ;)

OK so the pic I posted is a cz 75 D compact with rail? This should still have the alum frame not steel, right? This is terribly confusing.

Yes. That is a CZ 75 D Compact as known in Europe but also called the P-01 in the US market. Some models specifically made for the US market will have P-01 marked on the slide instead of CZ 75 D Compact. The decocker uses the alum frame in current production.
The PCR will also have CZ 75 D Compact on the slide but the rear sight will be low profile and the frame will not have the rail.

The other two things that differentiate the compact from the PCR besides the frame material is that the PCR has a different  rear sight and a loaded chamber indicator.

I bought my 75D PCR new in 2000.  I don't have a picture yet, but on the right side of the slide, just in front of the ejection port, and right behind the front slide serrations is "MOD. PCR".  It seems CZ dropped this nomenclature on later PCR's.  Mine also has the black, serrated, recurved trigger, not the white metal trigger of the later guns.

http://cz-usa.com/product-category/handguns/75-compact-series/

Trying to simplify it a hair. If it has a decocker, it's alloy framed.
- No rail? It's a 'CZ 75D PCR Compact' typically just called a PCR. Check the CZ link above, its stamped CZ 75 D Compact.
- Rail? It's a 'CZ P-01,' regardless of what the slide says. If it was originally made for a european market, slide will CZ 75 D Compact. If it was made for the US market, slide will say CZ 75 P-01.

This link shows the European P-01: http://www.czub.cz/en/cz-75-d-compact.html As you can see, looks just like a the P-01, just different name.

In general on the US market, you will see people selling a 'PCR', 'P-01' or '75 D Compact w/rail.' First one is a PCR, latter two are P-01s.

Bottom line, for CC, CZ PCR is the more popular choice. Lighter, no rail, decocker.
