You want to carefully read and follow one of the loads listed in a reloading manual. Only use magnum primers if the recipe calls for "magnum" primers. Otherwise, the brand is up to you.

A lot of folks will tell you that you must use magnum primers for ball powders.

I've been using standard primers for ball powders for years.

I've used Win 748 and 760 Hogden H335 and BLC 2 in .308 with standard primers.  I've used TAC in 30.06 with standard primers.   I've used Hogden H322, H335, BLC2 and TAC in .223 with standard primers.

They all went bang without magnum primers.

Some people will tell you that primers don't make any difference in velocity, pressure or accuracy but reloading manuals will tell you that if you develop a load with one brand of primer and then switch primers you'll need to reduce your powder charges and work upwards again to insure your load is safe with the different primers.  The bullet and powder company guys that develop the reloading data have spent a lot of time/effort developing loads, testing them and documenting the results, so reloaders should pay attention to what they say.

Having said all that, what works in one rifle may not work as well or be as accurate in another rifle.  Guns are different, even guns of the same model/caliber.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
