CZ P-01 Magazine question
« on: December 29, 2016, 04:07:27 PM »
I finally ordered my first CZ on the advice of a lot of people who I respect.  I've pretty much been a Sig P229 and P228 guy for a while.
I'm pretty excited about trying something new.  I struggled for a while whether to order the PCR or the P-01.
Now that I'm waiting for it to arrive at my LGS, I want to prepare some.  My questions:
1) Will the PCR, and 75 Compact magazines fit in my P-01 without issue?
2) Any advice on preferred holsters for a P-01?
3) Any aftermarket parts or upgrades that I should be looking to get?
Thanks in advance.  I really haven't been this excited about trying a new handgun in some years.

Magazines- Yes any magazine for a 75 model will work. PCR, Compact, P-01. The full size 75 mags will fit as well with some magazine sticking out the bottom but will feed just fine.
Holster- I wear mine in a White Hat Holster hybrid holster(similar to a crossbread) and it does the trick just fine. I am waiting on a JM custom kydex for appendix carry have heard they are top notch.

My P-01 is stock and it is a shooter. Trigger was a little stagy in DA for the first 300ish rounds, but it has smoothed out considerably.

High Noon makes outstanding holsters for the P-01. Pricey, but you get every penny's worth. Any mags for the CZ75 series will work, including the SP-01 18 rounders, if you want. :) The P-09/09/10C mags will NOT fit/work.
Night sights are a great idea, and if you can swing it a Cajun Gun Works pro package is just the bees knees, BUT...the gun doesn't really need it. Shoot the snot out of it and you will be very surprised at how smooth that trigger becomes.
A couple spare mags is always a good idea, so snag some soon.

On this site? I looked through the first 3 pages of classified but didn't see anything.

I have Mec-Gar CZ mags for my SP-01 and for my P226 Legion... I honestly prefer the Mec-Gar mags over the stock mags... and they are 1/2 the price!

Mec-Gar (made in Italy) has historically produced the OEM/stock mags for many manufacturers... no hesitation in recommending them!

crewmax,
Who did you order from? I ordered mine on Dec. 28th and got the confirmation immediately. I then called the next day to see if they got a copy of the FFL from my LGS.  They looked it up and informed me that they had the FFL copy.  They told me that I would get a email with a tracking number as soon as it is shipped.  I've yet to get a get that email so I assume they have not yet shipped.  The website says it could take 1-7 business days to ship after purchase.  I was hoping it would ship right away, but no such luck.

I ordered through a lgs in CA. Which is probably part of the problem, they have to find a low capacity model.

I finally ordered my first CZ on the advice of a lot of people who I respect.  I've pretty much been a Sig P229 and P228 guy for a while.

I was the same way for a while as well a bunch of sigs. Then I bought a SP-01 tactical and it opened my horizon. So I bought a CZ 75D compact/P-01 to see if the smaller variations stack up against my P228 and P229. I shoot my CZ's considerable better in every configuration against my Sigs. Still love my Sigs though. To be fair though all of my CZ's are equipped with parts from Cajun Gun Works, but not many parts though. I will say, if you plan on modifying your P-01 do small upgrades first. They really don't need much. This is after you put a couple 100 rounds through the gun to get a feel for it.

Thanks GoForBroke,
I cant wait for this P-01 to get here.  Others have told me similar things. If I like my P228 and p229, I'll really like the P-01.
I'll update after it finally arrives and I get it to the range.

I just wanted to give an initial range report!
It took a while for m P-01 to get here. And when it arrived, it was the day before we left for a short family vacation.
Because of all of that, I wasn't able to to make it to the range...until today!
Let me just say I loved it! After shooting about 300 rounds, I put my CZ P-01 almost on the same level as my long-time favorite Pistols, my Sig P229 and my Sig M11-A1.  I believe that with some more range time (and some better sights), it may become my favorite!
I've easily shot more than 50 handguns at ranges throughout my life, probably a lot more.  This was the first time that I recall my very first shot with a new pistol hitting dead center bulls-eye on a target silhouette at 7 yards.  After a couple of magazines, I let my 17 year old son shoot it.  His very first shot was dead center bulls-eye as well! Needless to say, we were both sold after that.
While leaving the range, I asked him what he thought of the CZ P-01. I purposefully hadn't commented on the pistol so as not to influence his opinion.  He told me he loved everything about it except for the sights.
I wholeheartedly agreed.
So...now to search for some sights.  And possibly some new grips.  I actually liked the feel of the factory rubber grips, but I have the Hogue Extreme Series Aluminum grips on my other handguns.
Any suggestions on aftermarket sights?  Are there any grips available for the CZ P-01 that are similar to the Hogue Extreme Series Aluminum grips?  Unfortunately, Hogue doesn't make them for the CZ Compacts.
Thanks to all in advance.

Another idea for the mags - you can take a standard 16 round magazine and add an SP-01 base plate to create an "SP-01 Compact" magazine. It really cleans up the looks of using a full-size mag in a compact.
