Ok, generally I'm pretty informed, mechanically inclined and firearm safety focused... but I'm working on updating my Bren SBR with new parts - one of which are some nice, new keymod rails. I pulled the original rails off the check fit on the new ones before having them Cerakoted to match my FDE Bren. With a new Eotech in tow, headed to the range Saturday to get the Eotech sighted in. I was in a hurry so I simply left the rails - and screws off - didn't need them and the new rails are due in next week. No biggie - I thunk ( this is what village idiots do from time to time right before they take steps to self select out of the gene pool ;-).
So, there I was with my very tacticool Bren SBR, ready to put the first rounds down range, mag in and as I go to charge the gun, my trigger pack simply falls out of the back of the gun. Those of you who have atually read the manual are laughing no doubt as basically the entire barrel, trunnion, lower rail are now sliding back and forth freely in the gun since in removing the rails I apparently removed the barrel mounting screws. I sheepishly unload the gun and thank my lucky stars I didn't chamber and fire a round. Lesson learned and this village idiot is signing off now.
Anyone contemplating a no rails Bren shoot probably needs to think again. Best, Matt
