Installed Cajun Ultra-Lite
« on: January 07, 2017, 11:04:19 AM »
I just completed installing Cajun Gun Works ultra lite firing pin and spring set. It was an easy install and reduced DA pull to about 8 lbs and SA to 3.5 - 4 lbs.

I just installed the defensive carry package in my 75 compact. Makes a big difference.
But then I broke my wrist, so it will be a while before live fire test.

That great trigger pull might be the best time to practice some weakhand shooting!😉
I'm only half kidding. Real world and all that.

Any disadvantages?  Light primer strikes?

Thanks,

Unless there is something out of spec on your pistol you won't have any problems with the 13 lb hammer spring. If you go any lighter you may have light primer strikes with harder primers like CCI and S&B.

Awesome kit. I have it in my SP-01 and PCR. Considering the full Defensive Carry Package in my SP-01. But honestly it's so good right now that I really don't think it's necessary. It is also a HD firearm so I don't want the SA any lighter than it is currently.

I haven't had a chance to get to the range but I will update you later. Don't expect any issues.

I've been considering this upgrade, but my primary concern is the mechanical skill level required.  How would you rate the skill level required?  And, any special tools required?

I know there are videos available to walk through the process, but I also know these videos can be edited.

Thanks!

Well there's not a chance you are less mechanically inclined than I am, and I did it without an issue. The first one took me about 2 hours. The second about 45 minutes. If I did another I think it would be about 30 minutes tops. It's really not difficult at all. The only tool you need is a 3mm roll pin punch. I used this one. You can prob find one cheaper elsewhere.

I had issues with the hammer spring. I could not push hard enough to get it to sit properly. I now realize the way to do it is to push the bottom end of the cap over the hammer spring down into the ground while holding the slide of the gun. It's so much easier that way. It was too difficult for me to push in manually using my hand.

Punching the pins out have me very intimidated. How had/easy to screw up is it? My fear is the punch sliding and scratching the finish.

^^^^ Yeah, that.

I would assume that a vise would be handy, but is it necessary?  Also, how easy is it to damage the pins?  Would it be advisable to order additional pins?

Lots of unknowns for us new kids on the block (well, at least me), plus probably a lot of questions we don't know we should be asking.  Up until I started reading posts on this forum, I had not ever considered performing my own upgrades on a gun.

A vice would have been helpful but not necessary. Do order the new rolling trigger pin as the stock pin is a throwaway. Who knew?

Put the same kit in my 75 Compact and some TruGlo TFO's. Made a great handgun about perfect.

I had never worked on a firearm till I found CZ. It can be unnerving the first time.
If worried about the finish, you can always put a couple layers of painters tape around the work area to help protect the finish.
All I have for a vise is one of those ones that screw into a table. It can be moved to different angles and works great when you need a third hand. I don't use it for smacking out pins.
Ended up purchasing a bench block from CZC (or a chunk of 2x4 with a couple holes drilled in it works also.) with the bench block I clamp the slide or frame down with a quick release squeeze clamp to the table. Keeps everything rock solid, and don't have to worry about slippage.
The best piece of advise I can give (which I read on this forum first), is to give yourself plenty of time. As you work on these it becomes easier, but if you start to get frustrated, just walk away for a bit[emoji6]
TNman, glad you like the results. BUT, CGW really should add a disclaimer on their site. ::::
Once you try the Cajun Magic, you'll only want more. Tweaking your pistol can be almost as addicting as shooting them. You've been warned. [emoji2]
