512 safety

I have heard of two different stories on 512 safety. First the safety has to be in the fire position to pull the charging bar. A second was that it had been changed. Does any know if and was this change was made

 My 512 Standard WMW was born in December 2013 and the safety needs to be in the fire position to pull the charging handle all the way back.  I would like to know also if this could or has been changed.

Perhaps you'll have better luck w/ a response over at rimfirecentral?  I am considering purchasing a CZ 512; however, certain things I have read about it (e.g. atrocious trigger and said safety and charging bar weirdness) kind of irk me, so finding the answer to your question is also of interest to me.

My CZ 512 Tactical in .22lr was made in June of 2016, you still have to have the safety OFF to pull the charge handle so no change was made there.

Below is my review at rimfirecentral;

I bought a new CZ 512 Tactical in .22lr and I must say I'm very satisfied with my choice of this rifle. It was made in June 2016. The trigger is very nice out of the box, it has zero trigger take-up, there is a bit of creep then breaks clean at 2lbs 11oz out of the box.

The upper receiver is aluminum, the lower receiver is polymer. The complete handguard, top picatinny rail and stock tube are aluminum as well. The stock has 6 position adjustability along with an adjustable cheek riser. Barrel length is 16.5", true barrel, no sleeve.

The rifle comes with 1 25 round magazine, the additional mag was 45.00. Mags are easy to load right up to the 25th round.

Disassembly is pretty easy IMO, the rifle is pretty modular actually. I disassembled it prior to use and lubed it up, there was no factory lube.

I put my AimPoint CompM2 on it along with an AR muzzle brake I had laying around. With the AimPoint red dot and the muzzle brake mounted my rifle weighs 7lbs 5oz's.

CCI SV 40gr ammo cycles quite well and is quite accurate, I did have some Win 555 bulk ammo and found my CZ doesn't care for lose tipped ammo. Edit, I tested 250rds of Federal Champion 40gr LRN, so far these are the most accurate out of my 512 and they cycle perfectly as well !

In the future I will work over the hammer and eliminate some of the creep, I am waiting on a fresh ceramic stone in the mail. I have re-arched the trigger spring and brought the pull down to 2lbs 6oz's...

CZ must have made some changes along the way specially in the trigger group and recoil system. My model only has one recoil spring, the manual shows 2, the actual trigger and hammer are a different shape/style compared to the ones in the parts break down in the manual as well.

The only con I have at this point about these rifles is the high price, they run $799.00-$899.00 CDN, never thought I would have that much tied up in a dam .22 lol.

can be pulled back no matter what the safety position.

I have a 512 in 22 mag. It was manufactured in late 2016. It has the single recoil spring vs.the older modle had 2. My rifle can be charged with the safety on or off. The new model has a lot better trigger
But still not great. I believe you can pull the bolt back and look at the bolt face to see if it has 2 springs or one. This will tell you if it is the redesigned newer model or the older model. The new ones will have a 16 stamped on the barrel. I have had zero problems with mine and it is superbly accurate.

My test fire sheet indicates mine was test fired at the factory in Feb 2018.  For whatever reason, the bolt cannot be pulled back while on safe.  It is still of the single spring variety, and it has a black aluminum charging knob.  I was worried about the reports of them having a plastic one and wasn't looking forward to making one myself out of either brass or aluminum.

I took down the trigger group and stoned the trigger/sear contact points.  The trigger was already much better than the old pre-16 models, but it still sends a guy into shock after pressing a 455 or 452 trigger.  After stoning and reassembly, I put a drop of HBN suspended in 97% Isopropyl Alcohol solution on those contact points and pulled the trigger a few times before putting it back in the rifle.  I added a drop of HBN to the points 3 times between the trigger pulls.  The stoning (just to smooth out the rough areas) and HBN has done a world of good.  I haven't put a pull scale on it yet, but if anyone is interested, I'll be glad to do so when time allows.

I just bought my first CZ a couple years back; solely for Wild Hogs. It is one of my most accurate Firearms.

Chambering a round with the safety off was odd to me, but now I?m used to; albeit strange.
