100 Round Drum coming for CZ Scorpion March 2017
« on: February 25, 2017, 03:08:22 PM »
I just saw this on the gun mag warehouse blog!!!!  Prob too pricey for my blood as is everything that's cool....

http://gunmagwarehouse.com/blog/CZ_Scorpion_Beta_Mag/?utm_source=gunmagwarehouse&utm_campaign=bd2063cb61-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_02_24&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_0d355b7f6d-bd2063cb61-424047629&mc_cid=bd2063cb61&mc_eid=4172a3d96f

Beta Company is known for their iconic dual drum design. Their Beta Mag has been seen in movies and video games. They were one of the original companies to market a high capacity 100 rd drum magazine for cilvilian use.

The dual drum design splits the 100 rounds on either side of the gun helping to balance the weapon and keeping the magazine height short. This helps for using it on an AR-15 and utilizing a bipod. Not something that can be done with the SureFire 100 rd quad stack magazine.

Beta Company came out with a 9mm version of their twin-drum design. It started with the UZI and MP5 variants. Then with the popularity of the Glock and Glock fed carbines, they made a new magazine tower to fit Glocks. Well now they have turned their attention to the surging popularity of the CZ Scorpion Evo3.

According to Beta Company's teaser picture, they will be released next month, March 2017. No mention of price yet. But if you look at their other 9mm Beta Mags, you can expect a price tag around $300.

I'll get tired of holding it up before I run that magazine dry. Not for me, and certainly not that expensive, but I will say it's nice to see someone is making something nifty like that. :)

This.

Also the "beta style" is more difficult to hold the weapon , especially if you have short arms. Really hoping for a 50 rds. single drum style like what Magpul makes for the AR15.

As previously mentioned, Beta Mag has been around awhile, and produces some good products with interesting designs. Price, though not announced, will likely be higher then comparable-round stick magazines. Additionally, a Scorpion using stick mags will likely still be more maneuverable that a two-drum set-up.

I agree that it is good that other manufacturers have started coming out with Scorpio products.

YMMV.

I too appreciate aftermarket support, but I've never (other than giggles) seen a purpose for drum mags.  Three sticks give you 90% of the capacity for 1/5 of the price and are infinitely more portable, transportable, and practical. These are not for me, but if it's all about the giggles, I support my fellow Scorpion brothers 100%.  Enjoy!

wonder what it weighs?  my cz 50 rounder (the 20 round cz custom extender) would be easy to carry and store.

Heck, go back in history a bit to get a good historical perspective of this venerable and ongoing debate between the two magazine types. In particular, take some time to check out the history of the M1928A1, Thompson sub-machine gun, the "Chicago typewriter," 20-rd stick (XX) and 50-rd drum (L) magazines, and the variants, employing the .45ACP round.

If echo makes a binary for my S1 I'd buy a 100round drum. Or at least someone make a selective fire binary trigger similar to an echo then I'd be drumming a new beat. Pun intended.

Same with the Russians. PPsH-41 started with drums, but stick mags followed and became preferrable due to weight, storage, and most of all reliability. I had a semiauto PPsH and came to the same conclusion. Drums sound cool but stick mags are more reliable and generally more user friendly.

storing a drum is a hassle, I can put a stick, or clipped together stick in my coat pocket.
