Recoil Spring Recommendation for Witness Match
« on: May 12, 2006, 11:37:11 PM »
I have a Witness Match in .45 ACP and one in 10mm.  The recoil springs seem on the weak side on both.  What is recommended for the long slide pistols for hotter loads?

I have found a 20-22 lb. good for the standard length slide 10mm but don't have experience with the long slide models which should take a somewhat weaker spring.

Is to run what came with the gun if it works.  When I had a friend working at EAA he said they regularly had guns reported as not working, and when they came back found the person had changed recoil springs.  The guns worked fine with the originals.  Unless you see issues with wear or function (after the gun is broken in), I would not change them.

For your .45, I recommend a 16 lb Wolff Spring, as that is what I run in my older Standard .45 Witness.

Stock No. 49816.....EAA Longslide pistols only....

Stock Spring weight will be about 14 to 15 lb's.  Tanfoglio Recoil Springs, while rated at 14 lb's, really tend to be more like 15 lb's.

For my newer Wonder Finished .45 Witness, I've seen fit not to change anything as yet.  When it is a little more worn, say 10,000 rounds down the road, then maybe an upgrade to a 16 lb spring will be called for, as the hammer spring and recoil spring will have some wear on them!

Is that standard slide or long slide or both?  Usually the heavier long slide will come with a weaker spring due to the increased mass of the slide.
