Need Springfielf P9 front sight

I bought this sorta-doggy Springfield P9. Owner must have NEVER lubed it in addition to dropping gun in water. Outside it was so-so...inside it has some serious rust problems. Add to that the doofus put an adjustabe sight on this pistol then attempted to SHIM the front sight higher.

Well....I need a new front sight to replace this citizen's attempt at building a higher one. A taller one would be nice, but I'll take a standard front sight if that's all that's available.....

Springfield Armory may still have some parts on hand.  Also check with EAA, as they do carry parts for older Tanfoglio's imported by others.

I thought the P-9 front sight was machined integral to the slide like an EAA?  Does it have a removable front sight?  If so how is it installed?  Dovetail or what?

These kind of parts are difficult to come by.  I had the same problem recently on an AT-84 that someone had filed the front sight bleep near off.  I put a Millett for a Hi-Power on it.

My recommendation would be to determine what height you need by some easy jury-rig temp setup and put a Millett sight on it.  Probably would require milling or filing a flat on the top of the slide and drilling two 3/16" holes for the studs on the Millett...best done on a milling machine or you might find a gunsmith that has the Millett drill jig.  The good thing is that Millett makes about any height or style you want.  Plain, serrated ramp, orange insert, etc.  

Sight is easy, hard part is finding a gunsmith that 1) can actually do the job without ruining the pistol.  2) He doesn't charge more than the pistol is worth.

My P9's sight is part of the slide.

I guess someone filed the front sight off of his gun just as the guy did to your AT-84.

Shooting low seemed to be common with the P-9 from the ones I have had.  Only way I could fix one was to put an adjustable rear on it that sat higher.  That also brought the point of impact up.  

If it were mine I would get someone to mill a dovetail in it and put an aftermarket sight on it that is readily available.

Cheapest way might be to have someone tig weld it up and plan on spending a Saturday filing it down.  :)
