Finally popped my cherry!
« on: April 09, 2017, 09:08:04 PM »
I've been wanting a CZ for years. It has always seemed like when I had the cash something would come up and Id have to delay my purchase. Today I finally took the plunge. My CZ SHADOW 2 is on it's way!!! Not only is this my first CZ, but it's the first gun I've ever owned personally. I'm certain it was a great choice, especially fir a first gun.I can't describe how excited I am! I have a 1000 rounds of Speer's just waiting to fired!

I have plenty if experience with guns, just not that one in particular. After an abundance of research I thought it was a good choice. I appreciate the reassurance though!

Congrats on the new purchase!  Just a heads up, the Shadow 2 is a competition gun and will most likely ship with 11lb. recoil and 13lb. main spring. That is not the setup to shoot factory ammo.  Anyone competing with this gun will be reloading their own ammo depending upon the class they shoot in which will be a MUCH lighter load.  You may be unnecessarily hammering that gun unless you change springs or rolling your own ammo.

It ships with a 13 lb recoil and 14 lb main spring which can handle all factory ammo. Even 11 lb recoil and 13 lb main spring works great. I run an 11 lb recoil and 11.5 lb main spring which runs all factory ammo. You don't need to handload unless you're running like an 8.5# spring.

Yeah I was going to say. Mine definitely didn't feel like a 11# recoil spring. I swapped it out for a Wolff 11#....

Just curious, why Wolff and not CGW?

Because I was ordering some new recoil springs for my 1911 and figured I'd save a little on shipping and buy springs for the CZ too. Looking back, I should have just bought from CGW instead...

Wow, what a great first CZ to start with. You'll be spoiled now. I find I rarely shoot my SP-01 Tactical or 75B now that I have a few shadows.

Yes, you CAN shoot factory stuff but why would you? The gun was designed to be shot with low recoil pulse ammo for production class. The OP never stated it's intended use but I'll tell you what, once you shoot some powder-puff loads at plate night, you'll never go back.  Shoot factory loads and you WILL stress the gun more.  It's just science man.

So what is the intended use OP?

Yes, you CAN shoot factory stuff but why would you? Mr Hobdell designed the gun to be shot with low recoil pulse ammo for production class. The OP never stated it's intended use but I'll tell you what, once you shoot some powder-puff loads at plate night, you'll never go back.  Shoot factory loads and you WILL stress the gun more.  It's just science man.

The gun can definitely handle factory loads... there was never any argument that you're better off shooting factory loads, but you were saying that it ships with an 11 lb recoil and 13lb main spring which is incorrect. It ships with a much stronger spring set which: 1) is setup to shoot factory ammo, and 2) is definitely oversprung for most handloads.  Also, I don't think Angus was the designer of the Shadow 2... Angus works for CZC, not CZ-UB. Perhaps he had some input.

You're right, he designed the Shadow Target which the Shadow 2 evolved from.  Shadow2 is a factory gun, not CZC.  I didn't know what springs it shipped with.  That was someone else.  I assumed from the conversation that it shipped with 11/13.

The one I had a chance to fondle had a heavy but smooth DA,  and the SA was probably heavy but was so smooth it felt good as is.
For me, The frame design is virtually perfect. STIs, Czechmate, Tac Sports, other Shadows are all nice,  but the S-2 is the 9mm Comp./ range gun.
I only got to watch another squad member shoot it,  but I'm convinced.
