Problems installing TFX TruGlo sights on my CZ 75 P-01
« on: April 21, 2017, 04:31:11 PM »
I attempted a seemingly simple procedure of changing out standard sights to night sights on my handgun but got somewhat peculiar results. Since I don't have any experience doing this kind of stuff (pure hobbyist) decided to ask experts on this forum.

Here are my two problems.
1) Front sight: replacement went fine except when trying to reinsert a rolling pin back it got split from one side from punching so I had to file off a broken piece and then knock it back it. Is it a problem if the pin is a bit shortened now (by about 1mm) . I believe it still holds the middle part (sight itself) but does not extend all the way to the other end and you cannot see through it the way it used to be. I can post pictures if that will help.

2) Rear sight: I used a slider tool for this so it went in well. However set screw on the way in did not really stop from hitting a back wall (gun slide) as I was expecting, it just kept spinning in place all the way inside the hole. I can screw it out just fine but cannot screw it in all way. Not sure why and if it's a real problem. I'm hesitant to push the sight back out just to find out what's wrong with the set screw unless I really need to.

Please advise from your experience. I'm going to hold off shooting it until I hear back. Thank you

As long as the roll pin is in both sides it is probably ok but I would probably pick up a new one and use it to drive the old one out as the new one goes in. Shooting it as it is should be fine as long as both sides of the slide is engaged.
On the rear sight, I am not sure what you are saying the problem is. Are you saying you did not fully retract the screw before pushing the sight in and now you can't get it to tighten up?

Thank you for the advice! I'll get the new pin.

On the rear side. I did pull the screw out completely before installation of the sight. Now that the sight is in place I'm screwing it back and it never goes fully in up to the stop point. My small wrench just keeps twisting in my hand.

The sight probably got a little distorted while being pressed on. If you don't have a better Allen wrench looks like it need to come off. It won't stay in place without the Allen screw tightened up for long.

I'm not but an expert but...

I have had the same front pin problem on my P-01 when I installed a sight and last night when I put in a 10X barrel bushing. I've read that drilling through the hole with a #47 drill bit will fix the problem. I had a drill bit and started doing that last night but apparently there was a fragment from an old pin still in the hole and I toasted the bit. I'm going to a hardware store tomorrow to get a couple more bits and will be redoing that this weekend. If you choose to just leave it the way it is your're good to go- that pin isn't going anywhere by itself. It's weird I had this problem twice with the P-01 but didn't have a problem either time with my 75B SA. Same pin, same hole, same bushing, essentially the same sight.

On the rear sight is the screw too short so that it's being screwed completely through the sight and is just spinning but being held in place by the dovetail and the bottom of the sight? If that's what's happening you could either put a shim a metal between the dovetail base and the bottom of the sight or get a longer set screw. I'm pretty sure the set screw is M3x0.5x4 so you could try a M3x0.5x5 screw.

Once you get to shoot with the new sights please report back on POI vs POA. I've read a mixed bag of results.

Oh, and welcome to The Original CZ forum!

When the knock on the door said “Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms,” naturally I thought it was a delivery…

Thank you for advice!

I got two pins (one spare) on order to replace the one I filed off. This time I'll be extra careful and try to put new pin in the same direction (right->left) the old one came out (left->right). I did not pay attention to the direction last time.

Problem with rear sight turned out to be red herring. I took a better hex tool today and carefully drove the screw all the way out and then back in until it hit stop point exactly as expected. It's secure now with a bit of blue loctite and not going anywhere. I think my problem was the tool itself not having enough traction and just slipping in the hole.

Got a new pin the mail yesterday. It went it just fine from the right side this time.

Love my new sights! Have not been to the range yet, perhaps this weekend.

Thank you all for advice!

replace front sight pin to be safe. rear sight, sounds like your overextending the setscrew past the threads. I would replace the setscrew with one that matches the same thread but is just a little longer to allow more rotations until bottomed. ACE Hardware might be your best friend for that, get a few different lengths and find the one that is a perfect length.
I might know what im talking about....but today, I don't.....

Thank you! I got everything working properly and took the gun to the range.

To my surprise the shooting accuracy actually went down even though sight visibility had improved. Perhaps it's because my new front sight actually covers very large area of the target at 10 yards. I used to be able to group my bullets in 1-2" circle around the middle and now more like 2-3". These are very cool looking sights plus I paid over 100 dollars for them so I might as well enjoy them. However P-01 used to be my primary weapon of choice for accurate shooting and now it's on par with MP Shield 9mm in my hands.
