Question about EAA Wonder Finish... what is it?
« on: May 17, 2017, 08:41:27 PM »
I had bought a new EAA Wonder finish gun, I thought it was nickle plated carbon steel but now I'm not sure. I can't find any information anywhere as far as exactly what it is. Is it just a matt stainless steel or is this some kind of lightly nickle plated finish? All I know is that my Wonder finished Witness reacts to cold bluing but that doesn't prove whether it is stainless or carbon steel as stainless can react to selenium dioxide which is a component in cold bluing. Was wondering if anyone has an answer on that.

From what I understand it's a hardening process. I've heard from others that it is similar to nickel boron, however that is only speculation and eaa is tight lipped about it or they used to be. Hope that helps.

The "Wonder" Finish, aka "I wonder what it is" Finish, is a Tennifer based Finish done in "Silver Grey".  Glocks use a very similar Finish, just done in a different color.

Thanks for the information I really do appreciate. Well I learned about Tennifer and Nickle Boron.

It's captivating really it is especially the wikipedia article on Tennifer.

I was told what JWC notes.
its a type of Silver Tennifer finish.
I have gotten great  service from the 2 that I have, the finish has held up quite well so far.
I also have one EAA that has the frame finished in Hard Chrome and I think its going to be a winner as well, Plus its shiny!!

Pretty awesome.  I carried for a couple of weeks in tampa middle of summer with a leather holster.  The crown of the stainless barrel showed corrosion, but not a spot on the slide or the frame itself!
