P09 short reset kit
« on: May 28, 2017, 02:10:08 PM »
Does the short reset kit do that much if you don't change to the race hammer? I would like to get rid of some of trigger movement in SA but don't want to change the hammer.
Looking for the best upgrade for the least amount of $$

You don't have to change the hammer to install the reset kit.

I know, but does it give a noticeable improvement?

It cuts the reset distance close to half. With a tweak to the trigger bar spring, polishing and the replacement OEM roller it offers a vast improvement to the smoothness of the double action at the same time.

Can the kit be used without the extended firing pin ? I think of using my 09 EDC and I don't want to sacrifice reliability by using a weaker hammer spring.

You need to use the whole kit and not mix OEM parts that the kit replaces. With the extended firing pin you don't get less reliability. With the EFP and a 15# main spring all of my guns are knocking the hell out of the primers. I have never had a light strike and can tell no difference in the indention between this set up and the stock configuration. With a stock main spring the EFP will actually pierce a primer. If you use the whole kit with an 18# main spring you will increase the reliability of the gun and not the reverse.

Thank you for the info :-)

Did you change the recoil spring ? I think that a lighter hammer spring would allow the slide to cycle fastly rearward, possibly slamming into the frame.

No need to change the recoil spring. There is not enough difference to cause a change. Changing the main spring from 20# to 18# is not going the effect the slide speed enough to worry about and going to a heavier spring may result in a reliability issue. They come over sprung anyway. Keep in mind that the ammo these guns were designed for are rated + P here in the States.
