Ruger Mark 4 Recall
« on: June 12, 2017, 01:24:25 AM »
Saw this:  Mark IVTM Recall
Ruger recently discovered that all Mark IV? pistols (including 22/45? models) manufactured prior to June 1, 2017 have the potential to discharge unintentionally if the safety is not utilized correctly.  In particular, if the trigger is pulled while the safety lever is midway between the "safe" and "fire" positions (that is, the safety is not fully engaged or fully disengaged), then the pistol may not fire when the trigger is pulled.  However, if the trigger is released and the safety lever is then moved from the mid position to the "fire" position, the pistol may fire at that time.

Does recall apply if a Volquartsen trigger group has been installed?

Looks like you only need to send the grip section to simplify the process.  Mark 1 ,2 , & 3 not affected.

unrelated but interesting fact.   My Ruger Red Label shotgun had the very same issue.  Scared the hell out of me when I slid the safety off and the gun fired.  VERY DANGEROUS situation.

Thankfully my recently acquired MK IV 22/45 has a serial number beginning with 500, was manufactured after June 1, 2017 and is not subject to the recall. It's my first Mark Series pistol and it would have been disappointing to have to send it in. This would be a very serious issue - especially if the 4 rules aren't being used. So it's a good idea to give folks a heads up.
