BREN on line again
« on: August 01, 2017, 03:29:32 PM »
I managed to grab an hour of line time today, and took the BREN 805 out for some load checking.

Terrible photo of the set up today. Target sits at 50 yards, which I think is a good starting point for load development.

I tried the 60 grain Hornaday Soft Points with WInchester 748 powder. Good results.

Ain't this one a heart breaker? I muttered..."Well, darn."

Then it was off to the races with some cast loads. 55grain cast powder coated.

Not too shabby.

The REAL surprise was this one.

The Bator style bullet is usually a real feeding nightmare for semi-auto rifles. When I loaded them I had a lot of bullet run out, and you can see the rings where the seating stem impacted the bullets. Honestly, I wasn't expecting hit hit the broad side of a barn, and to have to manually feed each round. How little faith I had in my fine young Czech lady friend, and she proved me wrong again. Feeding with all ten rounds was flawless, functioning was just fine, and, well, this really surprised me.

Maybe there's something there to look at further, you think?

Now the neat thing was while I was shooting the BREN, my friend was next to me shooting the P-09 at TUB at 17 yards and making him sing, but a father/son team were down at the far end with a Ruger 10/22, having fun on the last days before school starts again - cue angelic singing and brass trumpets. :) Long story short, when I was done, I offered them each 5 rounds through the BREN. BIG smiles.  Sometimes it's good to be a CZ ambassador.  8)
