.40 S&W morning at the range
« on: August 03, 2017, 04:26:14 PM »
Took the Tactical Sport, the P07 and the P09 to the range, along with a couple rifles (didn't get around to shooting them) and the SP01 SA (didn't shoot it either, tried, but it's broke - details in that thread).

Anyway, I'm liking the Tactical Sport more and more.  Nice groups with the P07's favorite loads.  That poor, poor, P09.  It's just not in the same league as the first two.  Everything was at 12 yds.

I shot the 140 grain Missouri Bullet reloads first.  They sit on top of  6.5 grains of Herco.

I shot five rounds with the Tactical Sport first, took a picture, shot five more at the same target and took another picture.

Then the P09.  Did the same thing.  Shot five with the 140 grain Missouri Bullets, took a picture, shot five more and took another picture.  Boy, did that P09 trigger take some getting used to after shooting the TS.

Then I shot the Tactical Sport with the 135 grain Nosler hollow points sitting on top of the Blue Dot powder.  This time I just shot 10 rounds and took the picture.

Same ammo for 10 rounds through the P09.

Then I got the P07 out from under my shirt and shot the 140 grain Missouri Bullets first.  Ten shots with the iron sights instead of the RMR.

Then I shot 5 rounds of the 135 grain Nosler hollow points using the iron sights, it's the lower group.  The second five was fired using the RMR, it's the upper 5 shot group.

What's wild (to me) is that by the time I finished the last five with the P07 my hands were shaking so bad the dot was jumping from just right of the center of the target to almost out of the black on the left.  Just stay calm, control that trigger, and the bullet hole still ends up somewhere in the area of the dot.  Trying to quickly "jerk" the trigger when the dot looks good would really screw up the group.

It was hot/humid and I think I got a little dry.  A tall glass of ice water when I got back to the car helped a lot.

Oh, found out something else.  I carry a P09 magazine as a spare for the P07.  Do it all the time.  I unloaded it, loaded it with 5 of the 140 grain Missouri Bullets reloads and not a single one of the five fed/chambered.  Every single one of them got hung up with the nose of the bullet stuck nose first into the upper/rear of the chamber.  Just for grins and giggles I loaded the next 5 of the lead bullets into the P07 magazine and every one fed/chambered like a champ.

The P09 magazines have always done fine with the 135 grain hollowpoints.  For some reason, they feed the lead bullets at an angle that causes it to jam up.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
