58 degrees and concealed in Tampa. It feels like a blizzard
« on: November 23, 2005, 11:51:45 AM »
After what seems like 9 months of 85 degree humidity and weather, now its 58 degrees with a cool breeze here in Tampa.  I think I will go shooting this weekend.  Also, a  good time to wear my light jackets and concealed carry vests.
You guys up north who have jackets all the time, never take this for granted, for me its a treat 2 months out of the year to wear a jacket and its a treat, otherwise its inside the pocket concealed carry.

Yeah, King, I was gonna ask you about that.  I'm moving to Miami after a stop off in Baltimore for a year, so how do you carry during the other 10 months?  Is the pocket the only choice?

I've actually thought about becoming the most formally-dressed guy at whatever firm I end up working for down in Miami.  If only because three-piece suits give you lots of CCW options ;)

I will guarantee you that the Florida humidity at 110 degrees will fry you literally in the three piece suit.  You will retire your three piece suits, trust me, they will become the things you see on Ebay and things you see in movies.  They will become relics. :D
Shirt and tie are about the most formal you will get, and the occassional light jacket/vest in the winter, otherwise,  our only option is inside the pocket, thats weather south of Orlando.  Places like Jacksonville and Tallahassee do get cold at times, but south of Orlando, as they say up north.
Forgetaboutit. !!:D

Well, I'm a tax lawyer, so they're just gonna stick me in some windowless, air-conditioned basement cubby with some documents, the Infernal Revenue Code and a calculator, so I should only encounter the heat about once a month anyway.  ;)

Have you ever tried one of those inside-the-tucked-shirt IWB holsters?  Granted, I wouldn't expect to draw very quickly with one of those things, but if you need to tuck your shirt and conceal, it's not a bad option, especially if you're partial to carrying something that won't fit well in your pocket.

I have not tried those, but you're right, they would print and your lack of access would be a problem if the tactical need arose, but what will you be carrying?

While it wouldn't work too well in work attire, I carried my Kel-Tec P32 all summer with the belt clip.  I wouldn't mind trying it with a P11, either.  I might try to make one for my new Walther PPK/S that extends from under the grip.

There's something on gunbroker.com that is like a Hogue slip-on with a tuckable clip, but it looks like the clip would be right under your hand, which wouldn't appeal to me too much.  I'll look for it again tonight and post the link.

Another option is the "thunderwear" thing, but I don't think that would suit me, either.

good suggestions verbal , and czattorney, best success in Florida and" may you have it when you need it instead of needing to have it.  "   Let us know what you decide to carry.

Water freezes at 55 degrees, in Florida, doesn't it?  <grin>

Maybe it just feels like it...

the senior citizens start to panic and raid the supermarket for tuna in cans and bottled water.  You should see them in their cadillacs during hurricane evac.  :D  , and they all have CCW permits despite AARP bolshevism.  :D

I used to have to visit St. Petersburg and Tampa from time to time on business.

I heard that St. Pete was the only place in the US where you might seen a Rolls Royce vs Rolls Royce collision.  (With neither driver able to see over the steering wheel.)

I don't see too many Rolls Royces or Bently's, but Grand Marquis,  Devilles, and Crown Victorias are very popular among the strawhat over 80's crowd.
