HBI 4.25 MK vs 6.84 Flat
« on: September 19, 2017, 09:52:04 AM »
I thinking about building a second Scorpion pistol. I really like the flat HBI handguard look, and i think I like the Micro K the best.  But, I'm a little apprehensive about the barrel swap not being a drop in. I do have a competent gunsmith, but the added cost of the smith work and barrel will make the K conversion pricey.

For those that have done the conversion, are you happy with it?  Any issues with the new barrel?  Would you do it again?

Two and a half inches, though it may not seem like a big deal, really can be, I feel.  But at a cost over $100 per inch, I want to be sure before I make the jump.

Drop in barrel assemblies are coming soon from HBi. I'd wait a couple weeks.

I picked up a spare barrel from CZ and sent it to a forum member for cut down, thread and 3-lug mount.  I am very happy with it and would absolutely do it again.

It's a Magpul M-LOK hand stop.  I bought the kit and used only the hand stop piece.

I had the factory pistol and carbine handguards as well as the HBI 6.84" Angled forend before settling on the 6.84" Flat.  I had my barrel cut to 6.5", threaded 1/2x28 and, added a 3-lug for my Octane45 with Griffin 3-lug mount.  The tip of the 3-lug barely sticks out past the end, and the suppressor is only 1" inside the handguard so I don't get too much heat radiating off it.  I have long arms and the 4.25" would have been too short to comfortably activate the light. The Flat forend gave me an extra MLok slot to push the Arisaka mount far enough forward to hit the tailcap and minimize barrel shadow.  The extra top rail length moved the front sight out of the way of the charging handle.  Taylor Pickerell "eMGunslinger" here on the forum did the barrel work.
