CZ 82 project turning into a nightmare, need help!

I bought my CZ 82 from J&G sales years ago, and it was the best gun purchase of my life. I loved the gun, it was super accurate, and never had a single issue feeding, even with modern hollow points. I thought it was a shame that such a fine gun looked so beat up, so I decided to have it Cerakoted. Here's where the nightmare begins...

I took it to a local shop, I'll spare you the details of what a miserable turd this guy is, but long story short, I get my gun back and it no longer feeds properly. Every time I drop the slide on a magazine of Hornady hollow points the round jams into the top of the chamber and won't feed. I take it to another gunsmith to try to fix the problem (and the half-assed Cerakote job the first guy did). Second guy thinks he found the problem, something with the last guy installing the automatic safety wrong, but the pistol still won't feed the Hornadys.

I finally got around to test firing it today, the weird thing is that it will feed ball ammunition just fine, but on every single shot the slide locks back as if the magazine is empty. I am completely at a loss as to what could cause this in a gun that functioned flawlessly before. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Are there any shops that specialize in CZ 82s? Both the gunsmiths I took it too seemed to think that the CZ 82 is particularly difficult to work on.

Maybe try and take it apart yourself and see if you can get it working

r47ch37 thanks for the teardown and re-assembly info...hadn't seen that before. Willisned, I'm no gunsmith but I think following the guide would give you piece of mind that everything is where it needs to be...and functioning.

I had a couple of guns Gunkoted, pretty good job overall but I did have feed issues initially with one of them...was basically excess 'kote in the rails.

Check the spring that holds the mag release AWAY from the slide. It can be bent out of shape just enough to let it ride up away from the frame. Remove slide. Put slide release back into frame. Hold upside down. Does the slide release fall away from the frame? If so, that is your problem and straightening the spring so it holds the release to the frame will be your solution. Suggestion: obtain a spare or two before attempting repair, that little spring is rather delicate.

Doesn't the gun have to be disassembled to Cerakot it? These are a bitch to put back together. Maybe it's assembled incorrectly. Or maybe there's a way to remove only the Cerakote with heat or chemicals.
