I'm not responding for the OP but this is what I've used for all my rust-bluing projects in the past.....you can get a fairly wide variety of final finishes depending on the process (number of coats, if you boil the parts, ect....) you choose. Its really kind of fun......but a lot of work  ???

yep thats the stuff , I also used  brownells own formula , but liked the Pilkingtons better.

I was thinking about getting the stuff to vapor rust like the instructions with Pilkingtons but Nitric acid is hard to find and expensive to ship.

Thanks for posting the solution, starting a 95 transitional this weekend and this thread is pushing me toward rust bluing.
