RH Safety Detent - Not fitting?
« on: October 29, 2017, 02:14:42 PM »
Anyone ever have trouble with the RH safety detent not fitting?  I am able to slip the detent into its normal position, but when I try to rotate the RH safety so the detent slips into the groove on the safety, I can't get the safety to rotate.  This detent was ordered from Cajun Gun Works, is it possible the thin part of the detent isn't thin enough?  Or am I missing something subtle?  Any tips/tricks to getting these two parts to fit?

Well, you can pull it back out of the frame and test fit it into the groove outside the gun.  If it fits, that's not the issue.

I don't recall having issues with the right side safety, but the left side usually requires me to use a little sharp "pick" to push the detent to the rear in the frame before the safety will slide fully into the frame.  You could do the same on the right side.  They have two little tips that stick up and the tip of the pick will get enough purchase on either one to push it to the rear.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Sorry.  Should have mentioned in OP.  I'm working on a Shadow 2 with thin safeties.

So yes.  I've pulled it back out of the frame and test fit it inside the groove of the safety and it seemed to fit just fine.  Where I run into a problem is when its in the gun.  Seems either the detent isn't sitting back far enough (read pressing against the frame from the inside) to reach the groove on the safety or the safety isn't going deep enough into the frame (read pressing into the frame from the outside) in order to allow the detent to slide into the groove.

In other words, the thinned part of the detent is sitting out just a bit too far for it to slip into the groove of the RH safety.  As far as using a pick to press the detent back, yes, this is something I've done on the LH safety since its spring loaded, but the RH safety doesn't have those two little tips like the LH safety does and its not spring loaded.  I'm talking about a full size Shadow 2 with manual safeties.

Oh, made like a couple other CZ's I've seen (no idea why CZ seems to like such variety???)

Have you tried putting the right side safety in first?  Seems like on my Tactical Sport (if that's one of them with that type of right side safety set up) I can put the right side safety in partially with it raised up farther than it normally would go and then sort of press and turn it down at the same time and it will slip into place.  Then the left side safety can be inserted (I think you may need use one thumb to hold the sear cage in place until you insert the left side safety.)

I'm thinking, maybe, the other pistol I have like that is that new SP01 Compact.  Not sure without taking one apart though.  For some reason the CZ 85 stays pictured in my mind easier than the other two (probably because I had it apart and back together more times).

Yeah, found a YouTube video that confirms it.

OK.  Mystery solved.  After much frustration I've learned that yes, indeed, the RH detent is the same part; however, the RH safety itself is not identical to the Shadow 1.  After trying the RH safety that came with the extended safety on my Shadow 2, I saw that it is in fact a thicker part.  The RH safety of the Shadow 2 reaches deeper inside the frame when compared to the Shadow 1's RH safety.  Once I used the RH safety that came with the gun things went back together as expected.

Thanks for the help everyone.
