This Year's Score = Minus One
« on: November 15, 2017, 12:05:30 AM »
Very unfortunately nothing worked out as planned this year and I could not effectively "make it out there" to join my buddies in the usual spot for the dear season.
Instead however, I drove right up on this:

one snip of the wire cutters and he was free

He laid there for a couple of minutes trying to understand what happened, the hind leg still stretched out and numb
Then finally stood up and limped away slowly into the woodwork

this year's score = minus one

Good job.

Funny isn't it?  How many hunters act.  I had no issues shooting squirrels, rabbits, grouse, etc., but I will hit the brakes on the car/truck and try to dodge them if they are in the road.  There's a difference between hunting and just killing.

I've seen dead dear hanging from fences like that out in west Texas.  Sad.

Had a buddy who was rabbit hunting one day in about 6 or 8" of snow.  His brother took his dogs down along a creek/brushy bottom.  My buddy had a young dog he was "breaking in" but due to the snow it was just staying close to him and actually following in his foot prints most of the time.

The dogs down at the creek jumped an 8 point buck and it came up through the field towards the fence/road but looking over it's shoulder to see if the rabbit dogs were following it.  My buddy just stood there watching that buck get closer and closer and wishing he had buckshot in the gun instead of the #6's.  When the buck got close to the fence it sort of ducked it's head and prepared to jump over the fence.  Right as it jumped, the beagle pup decided to step out from behind my buddy and bark.  The buck sort of twisted, trying to look towards the dog and got it's horns hung in the fence and flipped over it and broke it's neck.

My buddy said he waited on his brother to come up from the creek to see the big deer.  They loaded up the dogs, drove to a pay phone (yeah, several years ago) and called the game warden.  Of course he didn't want to believe them but they kept insisting he come out and look as they'd left the deer hanging there on the fence.  The game warden just shook his head, said if he hadn't seen/examined the deer he would not have believed it and gave them permission to "take" the deer with them.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I don't think that's a minus anything.  A good deed is never a negative. Who knows that spike may show up in 4 or 5 years as a real mature trophy buck.
