Anyone Have Any Experience with Copper Custom (MAC's shop)
« on: November 28, 2017, 05:59:04 PM »
MAC on YouTube has become one of my "go to" guys regarding all things firearm related. I'm going to give them a call to check on logistics in sending one of my babies (P-01 or PCR) to them for installing a Cajun kit. I've done some of this myself before, including the sear cage on a PCR!! I admit to being intimidated to installing a new/better hammer.

Anybody have any good, encouraging experiences with them that you care to share? There's also a local gunsmith that installed TFX Pros on my P-01 that I may farm this out to.

Thoughts??

Why don't you have Cajun install their own kit?

Well, I'd like to do that ideally. Have read nothing but RAVE reviews on what Cajun does to a gun. Even MAC (can't think of his name right now, Eric maybe) has nothing but great things to say about the difference a Cajunizing makes.

The other thing that I have read is that it takes awhile to get in the queue with CGW, then takes awhile for your firearm to get through the shop. Am I off base?  Making assumptions that are unfounded? Just asking; are there viable alternatives??

No matter what sh you chose you are going to have a waiting period especially if the shop is reputable and well known.

If  you've done the sear cage on a decocker model you've worked through the worst of it. When installing a Competition or Race Hammer in a decocker model you don't have to fit the sear arm to the safety bar, which is the tedious part of that upgrade. All that to say that you seem like you've got the ability to do the upgrade that intimidates you, especially with the tutorials and videos available.

But if you want a shop to do it I agree with SI VIS PACEM PARRABELLUM. There's likely a decent wait for any of the best shops. If I remember correctly MAC sounded like her partnered with a shop when he was talking about the pre-b they refinished.... I haven't heard anything negative as of yet...

The infamous decocker O0 it's difficult but doable. But what a sense of satisfaction when you finally get it done.

Copper custom was in the gun range I go to. They moved earlier this year into their own building. The shop is very nice and they do a lot of rifle work and some Glock work. I have spoke to Tim (MAC) a few time and seems very nice. I have not heard thing negative about the shop. Several members of the range have had Copper perform work on their S&W and Glocks and have been very pleased.
Earlier in the year they were not working on CZ's, I believe in one of the videos he started have CGW upgrade his personal gun. So you would have to call Copper

As stated in earlier post, changing the hammer isn't that hard. There are several videos on this and CGW is a phone call away.

Good Luck

Thanks all. I?ll do some more looking for YouTubes on the hammer. The part that I?ve read is challenging deals with the staked pins holding the hammer to the strut. Seems it would be best just to buy a new strut, pins, and hammer and start from scratch. Anyone taken this approach?

You can order a new hammer, strut, and disco, and CGW will put it all together for you, making it ?drop in? [emoji6]

I sent mine over last week to CGW, was 6 weeks from the time I let them know I wanted to send my gun over to them. There are some shops here where I live that do CZ's and have a good reputation. I chose CGW for a lot of reasons, the wait doesn't bother me.

[Johnny Carson voice]  I did not know that!!

And to Grendel's [and others' comments] - having Cajun do the entire job is my #1 option. #2 is DIY following the wealth of YouTube videos that I have used before.

I did. I think it cost me an extra 9 or 10 dollars for the strut. I was getting the HPINs anyway. I also got the RRK kit so I had a new disconnector. With CGW's hammer it was fairly straight forward. No staking required with the HPINs.

Had my SP01 fully cajunized. The wait was worth it. Now that gun shoots better than any others.

At this point I think I?m going to save up my pennies and send my gun to Louisiana! I recently acquired a new PCR and did not have that for weeks ahead of acquiring it! Therefore I conclude that I can stand to wait while not having my gun while it?s being cajunized by the guys in Louisiana! Thanks everyone for your input. Story developing?

Of course this means that I?m going to be acquiring a service that I?ve never experienced myself. This decision is totally based on the input from people on this forum as well as YouTube. Just wanting to share how much value I place on the opinions presented in this forum!

If you are mechanically incline even a little you can install the Kit yourself . Polish the Hammer Strut and part of trigger bar that is Frame side . It's really rather simple. Especially with all the videos.
